Array Referee Cards: Purchasing of, not penalization with Where can you buy them? I've seen volleyball or some sort of alternatives, but where are fencing-specific cards available? I've found one site which mentions having them, though not actually showing them, which makes me ever skeptical.
Until I can find some official ones, I'm going to use those 2x3" laminate samples for counters (in the appropriate colors) that are available at the Home Depot as a substitute. -

Array Most of the big vendors sell them. I suspect that not all of their wares make it into their catalogs, but if you ask they will probably have them. -

Array I think Tim Loomis sells them....but laminating a colored card is appropriate as well. -
Or just saying "yellow card"... -

I bought mine from Swordmasters. However, there's no need to buy special ones. Just don't use any that could be considered "silly" around Sharon Everson. -

Array Recently saw I recently saw 3 3.5" Floppy disks of appropriate colors on a binder ring used as cards.
New uses for old technology, I was very impressed.

Array I was looking online as well for things to replace my (horribly bent at this point) laminated paper ones.
Searching at Amazon brought up "poker cut cards" which are 2.5 by 3 (?) inches and in a variety of colors... for ~$0.65 each. I'd pull up the link, but the website's blocked here at work. I was thinking they would work pretty well. -

Array The best directors cards I've ever had were from a friend of mine ("Reawl" on the board). What he did was go to Walmart and get the colored foamies (the sheets of foam rubber) and cut them into card size. They always spring back into shape, can be rinsed off when your coke explodes on them, come in the right colors, and are 6 cards worth of material per $0.33 sheet. I'm sold! -

$0.69 each. 2.5" by 3.5". Also come in blue and green, which are less useful for fencing referees.

Actually, I need a clear card for things which aren't offenses but deserve it, like missing the first straight attack and needing to remise. I think I might give a Green card to certain fencers who don't put "USA" on their jackets around here. Blue now, blue would take soem thought. -

Array And a brown card for odoriferous epee fencers. -

Array Don't forget the plaid card for offenses against fashion. That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

It depends on who gives it to you. Paisley is MTD, Plaid is AFAIK Mark Stassinos. Then again, Jerry Benson should probably give some people a tartan card for offenses against Scotch... -

A black card would be a minimum, flogging would be appropriate. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Work arounds OK, club coach is in Seattle this week, so some of the dads are running the youth foil class (9-12 yr olds). The kids decide they want to do a team relay match (dry). Well, one of the fencers has contracted Back Hand Creep and keeps covering target. Well, of course the judges (kids) are all over this, but we don't have any cards, so one of our more creative younglings has a eureka! and sprints to the kitchen of the church where we fence. He returns with a yellow card (Splenda packet), and red (Sweet n' Low), but we have to use non-dairy creamer/coffee stirrer for black... Now the call is "Splenda! Covering target!" much to the amusement of our charges. I would imagine our coach will hear about our shenanigans next week... -

This is the first time I've ever heard of a good use for non-dairy creamer. The usefulness of the armory forum knows no bounds! -

Of course, as a Rice University alum, he also has a maroon card for excessive "aggie-ness" on strip!
