Conflicting info on Summer Nationals The following info is posted on Georgia Division website (gafencing.org) and also was sent to members of the division via e-mails:
**********************
Y16: If the child is 16 or younger on January 1, 2006 then he/she may fence Y16 at Nationals
Y14: If the child is 14 or younger on January 1, 2006 then he/she may fence Y14 at Nationals.
**********************
Although that is quite correct for the Y14 fencers, it seems to be totally wrong for the cadet (the ones that are called Y16) as based on our collective 8+ years fencing experience. The divisional secretary says that she has a written confirmation of this info from USFA. My dilemma is: should I take my son to the qualifiers (4 hours of driving one way) on the strength of written info from USFA or even more specific: do they honor their statements (even potentially incorrect ones)? Any previous experiences? -
And, BTW, it is not the april fool's joke: I got the e-mail and talked to them yesterday -
This recent post dealt with the age issues of those two events. http://www.fencing.net/forums/post400344-3.html -

Array That's why for the Summer Nationals, it's not Y16, but rather U16. It's U17 (or Y16) for the following season for Cadet, until after the JOs, when it reverts again to U16 for the following season. Similar Threads -
