I've done this for ages and for a long time I never saw anybody else who did that, but when I started fencing at my current club one of my clubmates did the same thing, but with more panache: he would actually flip the mask into the air and catch it. Much more stylish. So of course I learned how to do that too No idea if it actually looks cool as I think it looks but it's fun. Now that I can do it right every time, that is!
careful!! my friend did that and hit himself right on the nose!! that made my day, until he beat me cuz he was mad that i laughed at him...

i just realized i always try to touch my toes before i fence. it takes 2 or 3 bouts to reach.

I have a habit of frequently checking if my pommel is loose or not before and during fencing. After I score a hit, I make sure it is still tightened...usually, I keep thinking it is loose and tighten it (it is sometimes loose during a bout) to find out it is still tightened Yeah, I know, it's all in my head...

I always wear 2 pairs of socks but I don't think that is strange...

I always have to bee the first one on the piste when we begin practice bouts, habit from when I was younger and had to do that to get any bouts with more advanced fencers who usually took up most of the stru=ips, preventing us newbies from bouting much

At competitions I always run my hand up my Sabre blade after each phrase to make sure it hasn't broken.

thumb wars

I hold my back arm in the classical position (which in itself seems to be becoming rarer and rarer) but for some reason, when I relax my hand my thumb sticks out straight to the side, and slightly upwards. It's almost as if while most of my back hand is in fencing mode, my thumb develops wanderlust and goes into hitchhiking mode. I never realized how strange it looks until I bothered to describe it right now.

I always need to go to the bathroom before I start fencing a tournament.
