The reservations clerk could not find a reference to any group for a special rate of $82, as noted on askFRED info page, "Hotel availablity ... Holiday Inn Downtown Shreveport ... Group Rate available for $82 a night."

Can anyone else confirm this, yes or no?

    Senior Men's Saber

Jonathan Way should also be battling it out in Senior Men's Saber. Heck, he came in 3rd at the Gold Blade Open (eliminated me 15-4, so I cheered for him).

If this tournament was not the day before my senior final exams, then I would be there. The downtown Holiday in is very nice if you get a room away from the train tracks. If not then you probally will not be happy. Also, since it is not a Holiday Inn Express you have to pay for the breakfast in the morning. Hopefully, this tournament will be close to Shreveport again as I will be attending Centenary in Fall 2006.

    Women's Sabre

Congratulations to Cathy Latimer, proving why she is the #1 woman sabre-ist in the SW Section.

That said, I couldn't be prouder of my daughter Melissa. On Saturday she was impaled during the semi-final DE and had to take a 10 minute injury timeout. [She paried a clean lunge and got stuck hard right where her thigh meets pelvis. A little blood and a big bruise.] She carried on, basically on one leg, and was narrowly beaten (15-14) by Alexa Jeffus for the U-19 Sabre. Jeffus is very quick and Mel would have needed all her legs to beat her. Excellent bout.

After a night of icing, stretching, etc., Mel fought her way through the Sr. Women's sabre to face Latimer in the finals. She fought well but couldn't match Cathy's speed and talent.

I asked her how her leg was after the bout and she said, "Did you see my flunge?". Somehow I'd missed it, but then she smiled and said that when the opening was there she tried to flunge and her leg said no. She also told me that Cathy was really fighting well and it wasn't the leg that kept Mel from winning.

P.S.: Thank God for the CEFC Women . Their performance (2nd & 3rd) saved us men from a rude workout on Monday.
