Even fantasy-obsessed SCAers should get fit

An interesting article on the importance of fitness in the "Western Martial Arts".

    http://www.thearma.org/essays/fit/RennFit.htm

If you can't be bothered to read the article, I can paraphrase it for you:

"fat guys don't make good fencers, classical or sport. Not even if they wear bandanas"

What about short, fit, slim guys who actually wear a bandana?

Are you sure? Because I've heard people say they know folks who've read that bandanas are beneficial.

Well, jokes aside... they are. They prevent some sweat from getting into your eyes. But I'm not sure if bandana is the appropriate English word for those... maybe it's headband.
Bandanas are those banzai things that some shameless nerds use to wear when they're out to look for chicks, right?

Edit: oh my God... this is my 100th post! And I even got repped for it! Man, this might be the merriest day in my whole life... the worst one being the one when I had a nightmare in which I was a foilist.

I took second in a tournament once and later heard some folks saying that myself and the guy who won only did well because we were more athletic than everyone else.

Maybe we were more athletic because we trained harder and better. Maybe that has something to do with skill... I dunno...

Shame upon your head thrice over for unfairly using your athleticism to dominate a competition. tutt tutt.

    Yeah, same here.

I've won USFA competitions fencing classically, and then got told by people who I beat that my form was "holding me back." I win CF/HF competitions and then get told that my technique isn't strictly historical, and I only won by being a better athlete, and I don't really understand the historical treatises, etc.

Heh, Sildar - ignore the sour grapes.

    ---

Bananas are good for you - excellent nutrition and supply of potassium. Oh, what's that? You're talking about bandanas? Never mind!

Great article...in fact, great website. Anyone who downplays someone's athleticism in martial arts or sports really has no idea what its all about. Can you imagine some scrub talking to Michael Jordan or Jerry Rice, "You would have totally sucked if you weren't so athletic!" Well yeah! Ya think?

Hi, Antone -- good to see you about. How much you want to bet we're talking about the same people?

How is it beneficial to wear a banana? Will other fruit serve the same purpose?

Actually, a fully grown cucumber may serve a higher prupose.
