Array If I've got a problem with a ref, I would never name names on an internet forum. I might feel inclined to offer an opinion to them, or in some cases praise or offer opinion about actions rules, etc. It's fairly obvious to me when it is well received or not. I will be more likely to thank and offer praise when I have lost a DE match, as I feel the referee can know it is genuine.
Specifically, in Reno, I had a new referee in the first round pool that was nervous (to put it kindly) and slow. There were some noticable bad calls on actions and infractions. I do not like to get the newbie referees. Very few people do. The thing is, he was being assessed by one of the top FOC people and this (veteran's event, no one eliminated in pool) is probably the best place to give someone a chance, with little chance of meaningful impact if their quality is lacking. I know for a fact that he made a number of mistakes and I'm sure he got a lot of good feedback. After he's had a chance to make the improvements that I'm sure were offered to him, I would not mind getting him back. If it were a pass/fail situation, I would say fail. No matter though, he needed to get out there and get his mistakes over with. I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. -

Array My family trained hard to know the rules and to applied them correctly. They practice referee in the club which a lot of work on hand signals under the watchful eyes of Janet and Adelia. Reno was Greg first NAC and he was nervous. Janet has 4 in epee and 5 in foil and 10 in sabre which she hates
Adelia is a 4 in all three weapons she also at age 15 ace 3 of the 4 part of the exam and she has been learning form some of the Better referee. She had the privileged of taken two of practicals under Christian Valdoza whom give her 5's in foil and sabre. I do local event only but am rated in all three weapons. Hannah and Jennifer has taken the seminar but need to take the write exam. Six out of 11 members of one family not bad.

And you can spot quality up-and-coming referees by seeing how well they receive customer feedback in all its forms. Next to Summer Nationals, Div II/III NAC is the single biggest referee development event of the year. While it's unfortunate in one hand to "be stuck with" apprentice referees on your strip for your event, it's also a great opportunity to help guide the direction where you want your future referees to go. This is the most critical, formative period of their development as referees. And these are the same referees you are going to see years down the road, hopefully all of them continuing to improve. When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps: -

The Clan Loomis has dedicated itself to the good of fencing.
</understatement>
Some families talk about day's happenings in dinner table. Some watch tv shows together while others talk about field-stripping M-16's blindefolded.
The Loomi discuss Fencing Rules, throwing each other random application scenarioes, making each other aware of common pitfalls in refereeing error, loading up World Cup DVD segments during Dr Queen the Medicine Woman commercial breaks, etc.
At this rate, I project that the newer referees of the family will overtake the local populace by their sheer numbers and promote the Referee Hand Signals as the predominant dance at the upcoming Junior Prom in Mountain Home, Idaho. Perhaps the DJ can be pursuaded to spin up 'Mr Roboto'....
Yeah, in that small ( ^___^ ) family, you have your armorer, coach, national referees, cadet world team fencer and fencing gear embroiderer. When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... As much as I hate being a pain, but the name of the show is Dr. Quinn not Queen.

I see the good times etched in your face. I see the good times, that were once in place. I see the bad times, lurking in your eyes. I see the bad times, through the shadows and lies. The mask you put on is easy to see. The mask you put on, is no match for me. -

Of course that was 10-15 years ago, and I was fencing foil.
They have all improved significantly...
it's very difficult to guess who will be the premier officials of the future. Take your time. Read carefully. -

No.
haha everyone and their mother gets to ref at nationals if they want to ref they probably will
However, how much the get to ref and what does depend on how they do... -
It was probably Julian Andrews (if it was the black guy anyway)...he's the only really decent saber ref outside of Bruce that I'm aware they have.
P.S. I'm going to have to disagree and say that Charles Greene (note extra e) is not one I want to see coming to my strip usually...he's usually just a pain in my behind...but then again that's what coaches do I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
