The competition in San Jose was a Super Youth Circuit.

The San Jose Super Youth Circuit results will be posted as soon as the Pacific Coast Section secretary gets home to San Diego and is able to post them on the website (www.pcsfencing.com). She's driving the rest of the equipment back and only left Northern California this evening.

She'll send the results in to the National Office, though between preparations for Junior/Cadet Worlds and entry processing for the Sacramento NAC, I would assume that they are understandably swamped. Nonetheless, all SYC results will be posted to www.usfaryc.org

According to the Athlete's Handbook, none of the current season's SYC points are considered until after the April NAC (page 28 or page 34 of the pdf).

I did my post at the same time as mgriffin. Sorry if I repeated some information.

I hope the secretary has a safe drive, the weather is horrible today.

Thank you to everyone who put together this tournament. I think it ran VERY smoothly and was even better than last years (our first year- which we enjoyed also).

My fencers had fun. Two golds, two silvers, three other top-8 finishes.

I learned that Converse All-Stars are not considered appropriate footwear for referees. Otherwise, enjoyable.

Shoes should be dark-colored dress shoes. There are black sneakers that look like dress shoes. Several top referees wear them. On the other hand, some of the referees at the 2004 Olympics were wearing something resembling converse sneakers. Ugly as sin in regards to the rest of their attire.

I've also seen boots worn by a couple of referees (and no, I don't mean the cowboy variety worn by Ed Richards) to very, very good asthetic effect .
That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again.

You should have seen the shoes the refs wore for the finals in their tux. They were the same shoes for everyone. They were Addidas sneakers with 3 Federal (Pastel) purple stripes.

Also, it seems that this has not been communicated out to everyone, even the ref's. The rule for 0 or 2 blades has been dropped. The rule is for Y-10 the blade must be less than 32.5".

What I found very helpful at the San Jose SRYC is that the armorers provided a "marker" for measuring blade at Y-10 events. Every table had a small tape mark indicating the maximum length of the blade for the little ones. It made for a very smooth, matter-of-fact, pre-bout testing ritual along with weight test.
When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps:

Junior Pacific Coast Championships/Super Youth Circuit

I am glad you had a good time and hope that you will mark your calendar for 2007, when the tournament will be March 16-18 in Pasadena, California. Across the street from the venue is a very nice, full size grocery store, as well as the usual restraurants, coffee shops, hotels, etc. found near convention centers.

There is a lost and found page for the tournament as well.
www.pcsfencing.com, and click on Junior at the top of the page or in the left column.

Please let the Youth and Junior Vice Chairs know that you enjoyed the tournament. They worked very hard to make it happen.

    Paseo

Midi is right there is a wonderful open mall accross the street.

The mall is the Paseo and it has lots of restaurants (and a Gelsons Market). http://www.paseocoloradopasadena.com/

The hotel (not connected but right next store) is the Sherton Pasadena.

That was my suggestion, but there are a few bugs. First communication, many of the referees did not know that there is no longer a rule for 0 and 2 blades which was unenforcable and they didn't know which end to test from. Second the new requirement is rather strict considering the various manufacturers all have their own length to make blades. At World Championship and Olympics maybe a 1/4 to 1/3 of the Epee blades are too long. I suggested going metric and I pushed for 84cm. They went with 32.5".

Too many blades failed until then fudged where to test to. I am working on a document with instructions on how to set up the test. If it gets approved or I am given permission, I will post it here.

    Pasadena information

Suzy is right that the market is a Gelsons.

The tournament information page will have links to all this information and more about Pasadena; I am collecting information now but do not plan to make the pages live until next fall.

Pasadena has a lot to offer for families, and some of the information may be helpful for those who will have spring break at the time and are interested in combining the tournament with a vacation.

In the meantime, harried fencing parents might want to look into
    www.scarlettearoom.com
    which is down the street.
