Seriously, at a high level, almost all epeeists started at epee (AFAIK), but most local eepers would have started with foil, mainly because lots of clubs automatically start newbies with foil

I actually went directly into epee when I started fencing at the age of six.

Is it true that behind every epeeist there's a saberist or foilist? My sister told me this after I told her that I would never be a good foil fencer.
If you fence one well, you probably have the capability to fence another almost as well, though the amount of work you have to put into it depends on the weapon and the person.
This applies less to international fencers and such...
Josephine 25 has fence nothing but epee since she was 6 years old and have 3 National medals as well. But cant fence foil worth a hill of beans no matter how much her mother has try working with her.

Be careful of what you say I may not know how to use a foil but I do know how a saber works.
