| How far to the next club? Hi!
How long distance is it from your club´s primary training location to the one of the closest club?
In my first club, it was 36 km, but to the 2nd closest it was some 300 km. In my 2nd club, it was some 50 km. From my present club it is about 60 km, but there are 5-6 clubs within 100 km.
In this context I am using the word "club" to denote both club at an University, Varsity team, and any other fencing organization of some constancy below National/Regional level.
Do you have any idea of how many people live in such a place so that your club is the closest of all fencing clubs to them? For my club, I would estimate that the figure is some 100000 - 150000 inhabitants.
Have a nice time!

And this is in an urban location. Might get up to ~10,000 people given that the three clubs aren't QUITE colinear.
Or I could answer this question for the team I work for, in which case the answer drops to 100 feet and 0 people (in the same building, with the other club having two locations, one to either side of the room where the varsity team meets).
Not sure that including collegiate clubs or varsity teams really gets the answers that you're (presumably) looking for. :)
Also for reference, I don't attend the club closest to where I live (doesn't mesh well with my schedule, although considerably stronger in my primary weapon).

| Damn metric...let's see...
35 minutes at 45 mph...23 miles...37 km.
Fencing clubs here are organized around suburbs rather than cities, so it's hard to say how many people they service. |

| The fact that the closest club is a 5 minute walk from home is offset by the fact that the next nearest club is over 80 miles away.

| Our club is surrounded by other clubs. Which is why we have so many tourneys scheduled-and double scheduled.

| That would make the poll less flawed.
What's my motivation, Mr. Lumet? |

JyJy | Well, that is covered in the 1st option. No flaw.
How many clubs do you have in Finland? Only along the southern seaboard, or some inlands/ up north also?
Have a nice time!

Btw, do you know anyone there who's coming to sabre nordic championships next month?

JyJy | FraterFrag should know better - PM him. As you know, sabre is a distant 3rd in swedish fencing.

| In my case, the nearest club apart from my own is about 105km away. After that, the nearest is about 140km away.

| My club is about 70 miles away.
The nearest club to my house is within 5 miles. There are other clubs within 20 miles. They're just not as good!

| My guess is that in the States, you will find club clusters in and around metropolitan areas. Hence, the distance between one club and the next might not be so big; however the distance between clusters can be hundreds of miles.
