| Behind the head I was fencing someone from Germany last night who was saying that the behind the head touch has been banned by the FIE. Until last fall I'd been out of fencing for a while (long enough to miss the whole flick debacle), and was wondering if this was yet another thing I failed to catch up with. I'm under the impression that its okay to perform this action, even if the fencer brings the opposite shoulder forward to deliver the touch. I use it to infight lefties quite a bit, but want to drop it if its against the rules. I couldn't find anything searching forum threads, so forgive me if this has come up already. Thanks for the help. |

| The reversing the shoulder rule was put in place a number of years ago to try and get rid of this action, but fencers quickly figured out how to do it without incuring the penalty. A couple of years ago they removed that rule and made reversing the shoulders legal again.
It's perfectly legal. |

| Remember when reversing your shoulders in foil, your off-weapon arm must not be covering target. |

| it's perfectly legal although i would argue less useful now that you can reverse your shoulders again
that being said in some cases it still is good |

| So by behind the head, you mean the one where you reach around your own head to poke down at your opponent, as seen here?

| If the reversing the shoulder rule was created to get rid of this infighting tactic, then why was it never illegal it reverse the shoulders in épée? I see this attack in épée at least as often as I see it in foil.
