    Tournament Pics, Italian Dueling Saber

I finally got all the pictures posted from the Italian Dueling Saber tournament. Here is a link:

Chris, could you let me know who the unnamed people are? Some are referred to as "Opponent #_". No offense intended, just an easy way to refer to them when you give me their names.

    Any comments, anyone?

    Cool stuff! Thanks a lot.

    Opponent # 1 Mike Liam
Opponent # 2 Ken Mondschein (Ken is starting to bug me While I always do better in a tournament, he's been defeating me when we run into each other. Fortunately, I tend to do better against a wider range of people than he does so far)
Opponent # 3 Chris Fatzer (I'd recognize that blue smurf mask anywhere... at least his blue gloves finally died )

Thanks, Chris. I'll try to fix the site and put the proper names in tonight. If any of your clubmates would like me to e-mail them the original scans (some are bigger), just give them my e-mail address and tell them to drop me a line. Same goes for you- just let me know.

I should have remembered Mike's name. He and Edgar sat with Sean and I at the Cafe, and we talked for quite a while.

i like the photos they're very good, that lunge with the rolled foot is deliberate isnt' it and the hand on hip is also, the form looks interesting, i would like to learn about this form.

So I'm not the only one who noticed the foot...my coach uses a BB in the shoe to fix that habit. Took me a while...

Rolling foot... nope, that's just bad form

One of the ways we try to break it is to have somebody stand to the side of the fencer and put a foot just in front of their rear foot as they practice lunging.

Nadi reccomended letting the back foot slide on the lunge, but even he was against the rolling. In the long run, it leads to severe ankle problems.

    I'm curious.
In one photo (they are warming up) it looks like the fencers are going on gaurd in prime. Could this be?

I thought my dear old (terribly eccentric) dad was the only one who did that. He liked to think fencing, not get touches - if that makes sense. Half way through dinner he might get a faraway look in his eye, pick up a poker and wander into the living room to work out some exchange he was having trouble visualizing.

Mind you, he learned to fence when he walked with a cane, so he had no footwork whatever. He had to do something to confuse his opponents.

Warm-up: Yes, that's me and a classmate going trough a chage on engagement drill. He presents in 4 I close in 3, he goes 3 and I go to 4, he goes 1 (prime) and I go 2nd, etc.. just getting the line closed. And yes... your father makes perfect sense to me since it's what we do.
