| In Epee, Favero scoring machine shorting light When setup for epee what does the "shorting light" on a Favero Full-Arm-01 scoring machine mean? By "shorting light" I mean the yellow light/led that sits in the middle of the red/green scoring section.
I have one epee which has been causing the shorting light to blink on consistently when connected to a Favero Full-Arm-01. Testing the epee itself with a multi-meter I can find no shorts between any of the three lines. Possibly this is an intermittent problem and knowing which lines the light is signalling as shorted would help me to track down the problem.
thanks
J.

| If your weapon is fine you might want to check your bodycord. Check your pins especially as that is where the most corrosion could occur.
If not, check the wire to make sure there are no breaks in the line, or the socket might be a little corroded.

Still what do the "shorting" lights represent? A short between a+b or a+c or b+c??
thanks

| You weapon is shorted between B C Check to see if the barrel is loose and also check and see if wires come into the bell are pinch. Those are the two most common problem check the bell guard first. By losse the handle it should clear up the problem and look at the wires to see if there is a bare spot

Checking the B <-> C lines and the resistance is infinite. Yet when connected to the Favero the shorting light comes on and I press on the tip the machine registers a touch. Press the weapon to my opponent's bell guard and no touch is registered. Both actions are what would be expected. Yet during this the shorting light is still on or flickering intermittently.

| Now I what you to do reverse your bodycord plug the A into the B and the B into the A your C lead should not be plug in and that would do away with ground. If the yellow light come on you have a short to Ground then check the tip you may have twist the wire right underneath the barrell in that case it a rewire. Try loosing the barrell first which will untwist the a and the b. If the yellow go off rewind

| Since you stated intermittent, it could be an A-C short. The light would only come on when you try and get a touch. The other posibility is either the travel or the weight spring is slightly bent coming in contact with the barrel. Press down on the tip and push it sideways to all cardinal points and see if you get a grounding light.
There are no specifications for the grounding light. In fact for Epee, they are not required. Only for Sabre and Foil are they required and there Sabre has no resistance requirement and Foil has a requirement it comes on for any contact between the lame' and the weapon with a resistance of less than 450 ohms.
We all talk about Yellow lights and here is another wonderful example of the FIE inconsistancies. In Epee there is no Yellow light. If there is a grounding light it Should be Orange. For both Sabre and Foil, the grounding light must be Yellow.
