| Events at Nationals I'm curious: what event is anyone competing in at Nationals?
I absolutely S_U_C_K_E_D at the PCCs this year, so I'm definitely going for Men's Ind Foil, Div III. What an excuse to take a day off from work!

| Div II/III foil
Open and Div I team in hopefully all three weapons, depending on what I can cajole people in my club into fencing.
Depending on results from Sectionals this weekend, Div IA epee and sabre.

| Oiuyt - you better not take my 1-A spot! I already have the plane ticket and the only other event I have is U-19 men's epee. Oh well, I'll get you this time (there's no slippery strip).

| not this year, i'm not strong enough yet, i have to become more bony, more agile, more fleet footed, and more experienced, i think in about 4 more years, unless i suddenly develop an amazing skill level and my teachers strongly urge me to go and fence, which is not likely at this time, until then, i remain,

| Competing makes you a stronger competitor. Competing at the national level (in the appropriate division) really strengthens you because you get exposed to good fencing, proper tournament organization, good refereeing, and neat people who do the same thing as you do.
Also speaking as a veteran fencer, staying away from competitions until I get better is a Very Bad Idea because I'm also getting older and creakier while I'm at it; I'm improving right now but there's no guarantees I'll be as nimble-footed next year, let alone a few years from now.

| Oh man, if I knew that I was going to be as far along in my skills now when I re-started fencing last October, I would have planned for it! But everything in its own time. So I will have to live the Nationals experience through others and start planning time and money for next years Nationals. Anyone know where big event is being held for next year?

| I'll probably be going to Div1A foil. Qualified for it at sectionals last week - now I just have to figure out what the air fare is going to be.
Cheers,
Craig

| I recently competed in the local qualifiers and qualified for Div II and III in Men's Epee. However, I have only been fencing for 4 months now and don't want to get thoroughly embarrassed at Nationals. What do ya'll think, should I sit this one out and get some more experience? |

| Space Cowboy,
If you have an opportunity (money and time are not an issue) then go! Every fencing experience is a learning opportunity!

| Space,
Gotta agree with Shadow here. I went to my first NAC after only a relatively short competitive career. Came in dead last, but stayed until the end of the comp. Even watching, you can learn a lot about how the game changes as the higher skilled guys meet. Derek Snyder can sleep through a DE with me and just wipe me off the map. However, when he meets someone of far higher skill -- Eric Dew, for example -- the game totally changes.
My teammate, Freewind, went to the World Cup sabre in Boston fior the first time three years ago, and he was only in his first year of competition. You think he was outclassed just a tad? However, he came back as a far better fencer then he went, even though he never got more than 3 touches off anyone in pool. He did, however, hold off one Italian guy for 3:45 in a pool bout, which is an eternity in sabre. That bout alone boosted his confidence.
My advice? If you can go, do it. You can only learn from it.
