| It Would Figure... Now that I don't have a contract with a publisher, everyone wants me (& my book). I'm going to be a featured author in October's "Teen Read Week Celebration" at a local library, & I've been invited to speak on a panel of new & upcoming authors at a librarians conference in April of 2002. Needless to say, I NEED A PUBLISHER!
Fear not, for I am actively looking for one.

| put together a nice credentials file and send it to everyone, then follow up with phone calls and e-mails, see what happens.

| I'm with Dame, try Scholastic, they have a good rep with Kid's books, and they have that wonderful "Book club" that gets books out there into the homes.

| Pay the the $20 application fee to make a corporation and start your own publish on demand company.
If you have a low volume of books you're selling you can hand-bind your own books, its not that difficult if you know the procedure. I have a book on it but theres a lot of scribes and such with the SCA who are really into that sort of thing if you need hands on training.

| Thanks, but no thanks, Mike. That is out of the question at this time.
$20 is nothing, but a person must realize the real COST of starting a print on demand business. It's not cheap, nor is it easy. For instance, a person (or publisher) must by ISBN's in blocks of 5 or more. They also must be accepted by distributors like Ingrams (who is VERY strict on the printer that they use), Baker & Taylor, etc. Then there is publicity, both for the books AND for the business. To get a high listing on a search engine will cost money.
I'd prefer to go with someone more established. My novel is worth that.

| Have you considered E-books? Theres very few of them being a new field, and they seem pretty desperate for new titles lately.

| ebooks are great, but they don't sit on bookstore shelves, libraries don't carry them, etc.
In a word: Yes. I have looked. My book deserves the best.
