| What grip do you use? So what is the most popular grip?
I wouldn't have anything other than a visconti on my foils and epees.

| I have to have my little bitty, teeny tiny visconti. My hands too small for anything else.
I'm such a dainty little thang...<giggle>

| French on my épées.
Zivkovic Z on my foils.
My son uses Zivkovic K on his épées and German medium on his foils.
I have used or owned:
American (slightly less uncomfortable than a Belgian)
Russian (too heavy, but my favorite before going to Zivkovics)
Cetrulo
Rambeau (real nice, like a baby Russian but "holds on" too well)
I think the key is just sticking with one long enough to get your hand to relax whilst gripping. After that the differences are less than they seem.

| Foils: Visconti Medium
Epees: German
I find the visconti for Epees are a little to thick around the thumb and forefinger areas. Pretty tough for a guy with small hands to handle. Since, I switched to the german grip in the epee, my finger-tip control has improved. And consequently, my wrist doesn't get strained as my fingers do most of the work (as they always should have been). |

| French is okay.
Italian is an interesting take on French.
I prefer Vinegar and Oil with bacon bits.

| Used to use Germans, but found they suck for infighting. I use a PBT Visconti for everything except Epee. I use a French for Epee because I just screw around with it and don't compete. I pommel it so I can have an extra inch reach

| For epee, I fence French mostly, but I have a belgian grip in my bag, just in case I need to get physical :-).
For the rest of the weapons, I don't fence the rest. I just watch and appreciate it.

| For foil, I still like French, but also like the Belgian.
And I think I'm one of the few people who ever uses an Italian grip foil.
I guess I'm a romantic/traditionalist. |

| Zivkovic ZII on both my epees (when I actually have two working epees)
When they both are out of action I will use the clubs viscontis
When I first started epee I used Americans but now I can't stand them |

| The BEST grip by far is the Spanish Modern, but it's banned by the USFA. *sigh*
For my foils: a small belgian. I tired the visconti and found it's just too easy to fist-up on them. With a belgian I can release my hand from the grip and use the little trigger for all the fine point control I need.
If not for the angulation problems I would definitely use the italian! A very tight, efficient, and powerful grip!

| Visconti or Hungarian (similar to belgian) for everything.
French is good for Epee if you are built like Eric Srecki i.e. 6'5" with orangutan arms.
The Italian grip is just flat unpractical for competitive use anymore. |

| Russian grips, with the last inch or so cut off where it whacks me in the wrist.
I must be a mixed-blood mutt with an ancestor from another planet or something, because all those grips with specific places to put your other three fingers are horrendously uncomfortable for me. My fingers just don't normally bend to the angles they require. The Russian grip makes no such requirements of where your fingers go.

| I learned on French many many many years ago and thought I'd stay with it, but the coach has suggested I try out various pistol grips.

| i initially learned with a french grip, then spent a few months putting different pistol grips in my habd til i found the one that seemed to be most comfortable for me; a german grip. sinec then i have switched to a "short" german grip to provide more flexibility for things like prime.

| so if I really really like visconti for foil, german would be a good choice for epee?
