Who is Maestro Alberto Bernacchi

wwh:

Maestro Alberto Bernacchi is a young and very cultivated person in more areas than just fencing. He has been extremely kind to share his knowledge and time with me and this is why I share his ideas here by translating them into understandable English. This translation task has proven to be much more arduous than I had anticipated since the two traditional languages of fencing (Italian and French) go back several centuries and the terminology is by no means standard in the fencing treatises of either language.

English fencing treatises have adopted most of the French school terminology as its basis, therefore, to go from Italian into English in fencing lingo is a very difficult thing to do (if you read the older articles about fencing terminology and schools, you'll get the point).

Maestro Bernacchi is also the webmaster and one of the driving forces of Professionescherma, a website dedicated to technical experts in the sport of fencing (instructors and maestri, and those who aspire to become such).

http://www.professionescherma.org/

Currently, he is the maestro at the club A.S. Scherma Desio, near Milan, after having worked at the A.S. Pro Patria in Busto Arsizio, and prior to that at the A.S. Gallaratese (where he was one of the founding members) in Gallarate, both clubs near Varese, Italy, where he resides.

He may be the youngest person (at least in the past 15 years) to be certified as a Maestro in Italy by AIMS, the Italian Association of Fencing Maestri when on January 21, 2005, he qualified with a score of 7.0, the highest in that session where someone you may have heard of, Sergei Golubitsky, received his diploma of maestro also, with a score of 6.0.
