Array DFP should appreciate this I recently went to this show here at Brandeis, and there was a comedy troupe called Elephant Larry, who were the only comedy troupe not associated with any college (so I knew they would be the best ). Now, there was one particular sketch that made me almost wet myself, and if you grew up on Street Fighter II, you'll understand why:
The scene begins with Ken's cheesy USA music in the background and two guys dressed up as Ryu and Ken bouncing back and forth in the same manner as in Street Fighter II. They begin to fight, with Ken marching foward saying "light punch!" over and over again until Ryu is backed into the corner. Then Ryu tries to jump out of it, only to be stopped by Ken's annoying light punches (anyone who's played the game will understand this). Ryu says, "STOP BEING CHEAP!", which leads to this random guy breaking up their fight. Random guy introduces himself as Ryu's and Ken's master, Gouken. We will call him M for now. The conversation that ensues is as follows:
K - Master, when will you teach us the fireball?
M - I will never teach you the fireball. Besides, what about the skills I have already taught you? Like the light punch?
R - But we want to learn the fireball.
M - What about the helicopter kick?
R - We never use the helicopter kick!
M - How can I teach you the fireball if I have not even taught you the strong punch?
K - Strong punch is easy, just teach us the fireball.
M - I cannot.
R - Why not, master?
M - Because you will use it all the time, and be CHEAP.
K - No, master, we promise.
M - Alright, I'll teach it to you. Here's how to do it (both Ryu and Ken are doing all this). First, crouch. Then crouch forward.
K - How do you crouch forward?
M - JUST DO IT (awkward positioning follows). Ok, then walk forward a bit, then punch.
R - It's not working!
M - Keep trying!
Ryu and Ken keep doing these ridiculous poses (crouching, "crouching forward", then punching) until out of nowhere, Ryu jumps way up, and we hear from the loudspeakers "Shoryuken!"
R - What the hell was that?
M - Forget about that, I'll teach it to you later.
Meanwhile, Ken's having a lot of trouble. Ken says, "why is this not working?" The master then turns Ken around so now he's pointing right (oh, you have to get this) saying, "here, now try"
Eventually, the whole sketch ends with Ken shooting a cardboard Hoduken. Master says, "now my students, go to Thailand, use your skills, and become Street Fighter... 2. Only then can you uppercut a waterfall."
It was an anti-climatic ending to the skit, but I still think it deserved recognition. "What, really? I thought that song was just about a dragon who lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee."
"Dan, you're such a dumb*ss"

Array I wish I had scene that. Thats amazingly awesome, pretty much a parody of my existance. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -
I wish there was a video of that. I have a clip that I found somewhere of a troupe reenacting Mike Tyson Punch-Out. So very great -
