| Wireless Epee in NYC (outdoor) We'll have two different wireless systems at the Riverside Epee Open this April 29th. If all goes well, the semis and finals will be fenced wirelessly in the round.
The location is at Riverside Park and 73rd Street, right by the river, so feel free to invite friends and family. We're hoping to put on a good show for the public.
Preregister at http://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.p...nament_id=1814
Also, we'll be giving fencing demonstrations the weekend before, and free lessons during the tournament. Let us know if you'd like to participate. |

| Round as in no strip?
This strikes me as unwise..

The pools and most of the DEs will be fenced on strips - just the semis, finals, and possibly quarterfinals will be fenced in the round.
Obviously this all depends on the wireless systems working properly (they're both prototypes) and, of course, the weather. |

| What surface will the "in the round" bit be fenced on? Are you thinking of just fencing on the grass?
Also, are you bringing strips down, or will fencers just be using grass or even pavement?
And what's with doing a promotion so far from your own club (though it may bring some business to mine)? |

And what's with doing a promotion so far from your own club (though it may bring some business to mine)? | The surface is, unfortunately, mostly dirt (with a little grass on the edges). Otherwise the site is ideal - a great neighborhood, right on the river, room for 16 strips, with bleachers and a track for spectators.
The idea is to promote fencing in general, and what better place than the heart of NYC? We hope to bring business to the local clubs, and invite them all to participate in the demos and free lessons. Let me know if you're interested. |

| Just curious, but why chose to hold this tournament on the weekend of NAS Jr. Sectionals? That can't help with ref/fencer amounts... |

As for refs, it will be self refereed, but we'll miss the young fencers and coaches who can't make it.
We're working on securing a location for a fun, practice tournament the weekend before, for those who can't make it on the 29th. |

| Out of curiosity... do you plan on awarding ratings? I'm only asking because I noticed you said 'USFA membership required' on askFRED... but fencing in the round clearly isn't within the USFA rules.
just curious...

As the final rounds won't be fenced in the proper way and a few basic rules will have to be ignored it doesn't seem like it should be a rated event.

| I had a dream I was fencing foil in the round, once. Pretty weird, since I've never fenced foil... and my tip kept sliding off cuz she was wearing a chest protector O_o I thought that was an odd thing for me to dream. But at least I won
Anyways, yeah, it was in the round, on a basketball court. or a tennis court with no net up. Something like that. We didn't think to ever sidestep, though, cept for when I realized that it was a COURT and not a strip.
I'd love to try fencing in the round some day, though. Outside of my personal dream world, that is |

| I'd assume not, but they could still make it a USFA tournament for insurance purposes, assuming the appropriate parties approvied. |

-w | It will not be USFA sanctioned, but we like to encourage people to join the USFA.
This isn't about ratings, points or qualifiers - it's about having fun, checking out the wireless systems and promoting fencing. |

| Thats fine... and I fully support a tournament being run for those purposes... I just wanted to see if you were planning on giving ratings or not...
I'll be running the NAS Jr. / Cadet sectionals... so I will not be able to attend... but I hope you guys have a blast.
