| What do I think of Nick E.?
I don't think of him at all, until someone on this board posts about him...

| I've seen the name thrown about on a lot of older threads. Also mention of something called... what was it called, whip-o? I haven't looked up anything on the guy.

| I don't actually hate him. I just think that he spreads alot of false information about modern fencing, drives away people interested in the sport, and causes confusion in beginner fencers with his arrogant.....wrongness. |

| Why worry about Evangelista? He isn't imortant. What is important is the work you have to do to improve your fencing.
Do you wake up in the morning and think of filth or do you wake up and find a way to better yourself and improve what is going on around you? |

| How do you pronounce that name? Is it eh-van-jeh-LEES-tah, or eh-van-JELL-iss-tah, or EE-van-JELL-iss-teh, or what?

| Hmmm ... my options:
1. Who's Nick Evangelista?
Well, I know who he is, so that's out.
2. I'm indifferent.
I'm not indifferent. More enthused students will go out and pick up a book about fencing -- and more often than not, they find Evangelista, who is not helpful.
3. I hate him, he's a maniac.
That said, I do not hate him. I don't even know the guy. I'm fairly sure that he's not a maniac, even if he hurts more than he helps.
3. Some of his ideas are good, but I think he's fairly deranged.
He is, perhaps, fairly deranged, but you'll not catch me checking a box which says that his ideas are in any way "good". The fundamental principle behind his ideas is not good for the sport.
4. His arguments are pretty sound
They are not.
5. He's a genius!
He is not.
6. Poll is flawed. I hate The Fish.
The poll may be flawed, but I do not hate the fish. |

| I chose “He’s a genius”.
Not because I think he is, but I think his fans (okay his mother… an possibly his dog) are unaware of the poll and are unable to vote…. okay in the case of his dog (if Nick has one) he/she also lacks the fine motor control to vote.
I have little doubt that his dog thinks he’s a genius if for no other reason other than Nick’s ability to open cans.
As for his mother… what mother doesn’t think her little boy is the smartest?
So I am voting on their behalf as this small (and unaware) segment of the population are not being represented in this poll and I see this as an injustice.

| I am humbled by the brilliance of the two preceding posts - both excellent, in very different ways. Well done!

He has written several books on fencing but is an evangilist (pun intended) for "Classical" fencing. He basically thinks pistol grips and other new developments since middle of the 20th century are tools of the devil.

| I wonder if that was written by Nick or one of his students?
