Array Oops, the title should say "Charity Open."
It looks like we may have a good turn out for this one. "Being a good feind is like being a photographer, you have to search for the right moments." -

Array I know some people who are coming but aren't preregistered yet. Of course, I would consider 15 a good turn out! "Being a good feind is like being a photographer, you have to search for the right moments." -

Array I just thought I would share this excerpt from an email I received from Nancy Exnicios with The Fencing Foundation, the charity that we are donating the profits from our tournament to. It may seem like the hurricanes were a long time ago, but these people still need help.
“Recovery is extremely slow. We have one club, the Tulane Fencing Club, that is up and functional in the New Orleans area. There were basically 6 others that have not been able to restart. We were just awarded a matching grant from USFA that will help us get some of our equipment costs reimbursed, but it is not to assist the clubs, only the division. We are hoping to get another club up for the summer, which is the summer fencing club, to combine all the other salles during the summer months and pool resources. Right now it is just very difficult to get the energy together to fund and run the clubs when we are all lacking equipment and gear, I just bought shoes personally and that is all some of us have - it is possible to borrow some of the other items.
We are currently with only two coaches working in the area, on foil and epee and one exclusively for saber. We lost three others possibly permanently. But, we do plan on providing coaching gear to one coach who lost his salle, equipment (and everything else) in Mississippi as well as funding some strip purchases and trying to get some more grant matches this summer.
So, we are definitely still taking contributions to the Fencing Foundation and greatly appreciate the support we have received. All told we have received about $2500 but with 6 clubs wiped out and about 35 fencers impacted, it goes very quickly. . . Next season we will be back (I hope) to more normal.”

Array Yeah, Kieth Kicked some serious butt Saturday! He can even flick with the new timings. My bet is he'll re-earn his B within a year.
Also, congratulations to Kyle Barja of Charlotte Fencing Academy who took the gold in the epee event, and thanks to all who came out and made this a great tournament! We raised over $200 for the Fencing Foundation! "Being a good feind is like being a photographer, you have to search for the right moments." -
