| Challenge Bernadotte, GP being fenced now Stockholm, Sweden: Men's Epee Grand Prix, the Challenge Bernadotte.
It's running today and tomorrow. It's a strong tournament, the world top 32 (except #16 and #31) are here. All the main teams are here, sum of 186 fencers from 36 countries. http://www.challengebernadotte.org -- not much info yet.
Day 1,
- Soren eliminated by Milanoli.
- Erbele, Viviani are both out.
Tomorrow the table of 64:
- Fabrice Jeannet vs Eric Hansen
- Kelsey vs. Bas Verwijlen
Rumor: D Strigel (DE) may announce retirement.
Fencing Channel is here covering the action and taking athlete interviews (20 so far!). Any questions we should be asking during these interviews? |

I think it's great that a system is now in place to make more fencing footage available. And interviews are a great idea--but they need to be significantly more journalistic, more professional.
Stick to the material that's relevant: what's made this a successful/unsuccessful performance? any recent changes in technique/tactics/etc. seem to be prevalent? which opponents/nations are standing out/dropping off?
I think that will significantly boost the quality of the interviews. |

| Kelsey lost 15-9 vs France's Fabrice Jeannet, in the r8.
Considering the strength of this tournament (only 2 fencers of the world top 32 missing), his performance puts him in the top 8 of the world. (Ultimate point rankings will end up different, though.)

| Very productive tournament! We had dinner with Bas Verwijlen (NED), and we're going to record a commentary track for a DVD with him. We interviewed Jeannet, Fischer. We talked with Milanoli -- about his angry-clown mask, black cards, the best epee fencers of all time (starting with himself). The prizes at the GP included iPods!
Italy/Hungary for the team final, great final, great footage! Hungary took an early lead, but Italy came back (Carrozo, Martinoli, Bossalini, Milanoli as 4th). Italy 45, Hungary 35. |
