| Needle,
Take a look at your old friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SA-4_Ganef
My hat is off to you, even though we squared off on opposite sides. I am so thankful the balloon never went up -- as we'd say in the U.S. military.
Regards,
Feltan |

I was trained to operate the Rocket Guidance Station (Pat Hand) and quite happy that I never got the chance to use it - customary exchange of hats follows

Edit: Oh, and I never said that the standards should be relaxed, either...
Edit 2: Or were you referring to the "Starship Troopers" thing? You didn't quote... | I'm disappointed that the GI Bill hasent really kept up with the times. I think 100% free tuition should be available to anyone doing 4 years active duty or anyone doing a tour in a combat role during a conflict, with free grad school for those taking a commission after finishing undergrad. I'm also in favor of offering more incentives to those serving the US in non-military roles. |

I was in the Army ( which was known as Regular Army in some circles, so maybe you understand my confusion ). Infantry, first Rangers, then overseas service guarding nuclear missile bases, and later mechanized anti-tank-missile platoons of a couple of different infantry battalions. Never saw combat, though. |

Regards,
Feltan | I had three years sea duty, on both the USS Boston and USS Canberra, doing missile maintenance on the Terrier SAM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrier_missile
After Korea and before Viet Nam. But we were offshore when the marines landed in Lebanon in 1958.
Unfortunately there was a gap in the GI Bill benefits for my time in the service. It was later closed. The month I got my Masters but was not retroactive.

Yes, that was Starship Troopers. Mind you, Heinlein fenced with Italian foil, which must indicate something. | That he was elegant?

We do pay well enough that a summer spent serving in the enlisted military will pay for the following two semesters of university. And there are career improvement courses (university degress generally) that can be taken once you're a full member, but nothing guarenteed up front.

ARe you sure about this. I knew a MARS Officer in univeristy who was a sub-lieutenant in the Navy and his education was subsidized by the DoD. He was there endentured slave for a couple years after he graduated though...funny.....though in the Navy, was stationed at HMCS Griffin during the school year....in Thunder Bay.

| I did four years USN 85-89, AT3 but missed the "frocking" ceremony for AT2, because that was my out date. Two WESPAC cruises with VAW114 onboard the USS Carl Vinson CVN70. Longest stretch without land was 105 days in the I.O. turning circles. No combat, thankfully.
Slim- you still a slimy wog? Bow down to the Shellback!!

| Okay, for you Navy guys......Hatch, deck, head, starboard, fouled, lay, bulkhead. Whats wrong with good ol' fashion english terms? Why the need to make a whole new vocabulary?
Don't even get me started on your ranks. |
