| Big Calf Socks I noticed in the 'dressing order' thread that someone else (like moi) is blessed with larger than life calves (Thanks grandma, and now I see I have your arms as well.... ).
I've tried everything-ski, soccer, baseball, etc. and no sock would fit comfortably over my calves. They were large at birth-I've never been able to wear knee socks.
I have found that you can order white knee socks for large calves from a company called FootSmart. http://www.footsmart.com/ProductList...CategoryId=241
These are very nice-and stay up without being constricting. They don't have the padding in front that fencing socks do, but these are the first socks I've ever had that go up over my knee, fold and don't squeeze my leg.
Hope that helps out all my anatomically similar friends out there. |

| You think finding socks is hard... try finding a decent jacket and lame when your weapon arm is huge like mine!

| Forget padding. Just get white socks that fit. You might get a welt in the thigh once in a while, but rarely in the leg below the knee. Don't worry about this. |

| Interesting thing about calves... having big calves IS very much genetics. Many professional (or semi-professional) body builders would kill for big calves but can't get them, no matter how much they work out. So, nothing I've written here helps you with finding socks that fit, but if you ever decide to go into professional bodybuilding, at least you have the calves for it

| That's how I figured out I got them from grandma-an old beach photograph from when she was probably 17 or 18-we could name everyone in the picture, except the blurred woman in the back-only her leg was showing and the calf could have been me. This was back in the day of wool tank suits and bloomers..... |

| I think its genetics, but also the work you put in. The gastrocnemius is a muscle that is very very difficult to shock into growth. They're used to having your entire bodyweight on them at any given time, for many many many many reps. If you want em bigger, use insanely high poundages, like, way more than you can squat. The trouble is that getting under the bar when you have 655 lbs stacked on for calf raises is difficult, so thats where the calf training ends for most trainees.

| Thats where seated calf-raise machines come in, except hardly any gyms have them.

| Thorlo basketball socks. Nicely padded heels and toes. And they last forever, my newest are about three years old. They have a very soft, giving machine knit.
