| Eigertek 3W machine I would like some opinions on the Eigertek 3W machines sold by American Fencing Supply.
I have been tasked with finding new boxes and I really like the concept of something that small, light, well designed.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

We just started using one at our club. It was a competition between the Eigertek and the Favero Full-Arm (we already have one of these and like it quite a bit.). What really sold us initially on the Eigertek is the battery option. We share a space for our club so all our strips are "transient". The Eigertek makes setting up the center strip a breeze as it needs no AC power.
That said, having used the Eigertek for a couple of sessions has really sold us. We love it. We particularly like the intelligent sensing of no weapons, eliminating the formerly ubiquitous cries of "turn it off" during strip rotation. The LED "lights" are very bright and visible to the director at all angles.
About the only real drawback is that if you priced it by weight or volume, the other machines on the market would be cheaper. ;~)
We highly recommend it. It is the future of scoring machines.

| same here.. Great box, easy to carry, you don't have to criss cross the floor cords, plug straight in.

| saber mainly: well those are all very good points... but the few draw backs to it are lets say you part of your cord is dead like a b or c (cant remember witch) line then it wont work where as most old boxes if the a or b (cant remember witch) was broken it would still work you would have a white light but it was ok it wasnt a big deal evan in nac's if you have a white light as long as your light go's off its ok ( i think the white light being on and stil getting a red/green light means that if you come to gaurd then you arent closed out)
also to Arturo, how ofen dose a machien break? iv had 1 break with in my 2 years exp the best thing i like about it is when my club dose a demo we do it in electric and we dont need 80 ft of extensin cord to 1 box thats what i like most about it and the led lights nice for refareeing
ok im done ramblying with my run on sentence
thats odd thers 2 and the top one isnt compleat how wierd...

| The Eigertek I have got knocked off of a table onto a concrete floor while being used at a tournament at another club today, with no ill effect (not even a noticeable mark on the plastic).
I should note that there was a posting on r.s.f. about a set of Eclipses in Texas that had a tendency to indicate false-valid hits on the red side whenever that fencer's weapon came into contact with the opponent's blade (as though there were a short between B/C and A on the opponent's side). I've not seen this behavior with my Eclipse, nor has anyone else I know of who's used them-- possibly one batch with a common defect. Dieter Schlaepfer's been made aware of the complaint and will look into it. Based on my own experience and the weight of other folks experiences, my recommendation stands.
Sabrekid (r.e. grammar)-- ever consider changing your last name to Bush ?

| No can do Lumberg...
Some of us belong to clubs that don't have the money to buy overpriced, over-hyped, overrated, and bulky boxes that have to be sent across the atlantic every time the FIE changes the rules on us.
I much prefer a reasonably priced, well-reputed, small, portable box made by a company that will gladly provide tech support and updates at minimal or no cost.
(but thanks for the suggestion)
