| Breeches openings Ok, whats the IFE rule on what side your breeches can open? I'm a lefty and my new Soudet FIE breeches zip up on the LHS, similarly one of my friends new FIE Soudet breeches zip up on the RHS and he is right handed. Something just doesnt seem right about this.....am I being paranoid?

| Why don't you guys just switch "breeches"? sound's like you're wearing righty and he's got the lefty... Susposed to zip up on the off weapon side

| There is no rule on which side the breeches (knickers) zip up on. The only safety rule for breeches is that they must go 10 cm above the bottom of the jacket. I have Uhlmann knickers and the zipper is the middle. The only other rules with knickers have to do with colors, fencer's names, FIE patch size, blah, blah, blah.

| Sounds like the vendor got the handedness of the breeches mixed up. I've got a Soudet FIE uniform, lefty, and the zipper is on the right side (i.e., away from the opponent). However, it doesn't make any real difference. I have an older Soudet uniform that I purchased just after their distributor in the U.S. dropped them, and the only breeches they had in my size were a righty pair (with the zipper on the left side). I used them for 4 years-- the zipper is covered by the jacket, anyway.
BTW, Papa, "knickers" has a slightly different meaning in Aussie/Brit English than in American-- let's just say that it'd be inappropriate to go up to a woman with whom you weren't on fairly close terms with and ask her how she likes the knickers she's wearing (insert mental image of a Benny Hill sketch here ).

| Neevel you are totally correct. In another post Hilanddoug mentioned he would like nothing better than tartan knickers!
I'm scottish and when I told the guys over here in Edinburgh there was some serious eyebrow raising - until I explained the context. |

| While we are on the knicker/breeches issue, I was wondering is the undershorts a FIE requirement ?
Does any referee actually check ?

| Thanks guys, I thought it didnt matter, but I wasnt sure. My old FIE Soudet stuff is all RHS zip. Though sodet have changed their weaving process so their whites dont seem as "light" as they used to be. I have yet to use them as they are "competition only". First chance will be the invitational on the 18th Feb. Will let you know!

| I found the same thing between my new and old Soudet uniforms. They've added a backing to the fabric that makes it wick persperation away-- it is a bit heavier than the older, non-stretch material, but it also is less clammy feeling after you've been sweating in it.

| Neevel, thats what my mum said...though I must admit I looked at her funny at first. My whites were never clammy after lots of sweating as I wear a t-shirt underneath, BUT they did have a tendency (still do) to walk themselves to the washing machine. BTW you know you have been fencing hard when it takes 3 washes to get them vaguely white again (and thats only after 3.5 days of fencing!!!)
