pistol grip differences?

A french grip doesn't feel right to me due to hand surgery some years back. Today, about 8 years later, I want to pick up fencing again. I'm hoping to relearn the footwork and regain some point control with a french grip but want to shift to a pistol grip in 3-6 months due to my hand. My question is - what are the differences? I know there are many but I seem to hear about Belgian and Visconti the most. Is it all about feel or do some provide more control, strength, etc? Thanks in advance for your help.

look at the uhlmann website under foil spare parts [http://www.uhlmann-fechtsport.de] they have pictures of the different grips there, have a hold of a few at clubs to see what its like then feel what u prefer & look for it there

It really depends on what feels good and what your fencing style is. you have to try them out. If you can get to a NAC, you'll be able to try them all at the vendor's booths.

I think its impotant to try them all next time you're at a vendors stall. See which ones you prefer.

I find grips vary a lot manufacturer to manufacturer and also grip to grip. I've had some minor hand problem since I had a major sprain years ago and I find some grips are better than others. See what suits yourself.

An important thing to note in making your decision is that 90% of the good fencers out there use a Visconti of one kind or another.
