Just be careful next time... I've been known to crush a mans skull between my forearm and bicep for lesser offenses.

| Well, if your opponents are beating your blade so hard as to almost disarm you, that sounds like they're beating more with their arm and less with their wrist. Use this to your advantage; set your tip slightly off-center (say pointing at their rear shoulder rather than their chest), and when they go to beat it, which you will see coming a mile away, disengage and lunge (or just thrust if they like to beat as they advance). I use this all the time, it's Touch City.
Also, my coach recommended to a friend and me that a good conditioning exercise for your fingers is to take a racquetball and squeeze it continuously; this will build up strength in your fingers so you can hold the foil slightly tighter without gripping it like a club. |

| well... there already seems a host of info on what you can do but I will add my fiddy cents anyways and give you my 3 step solution:
1. do weighttraining that targets your lower arm (i.e. hold 5 or 10 pound disk in your weaponhand while resting the elbow on the knee and move your hand up and down)
2. don't cramp up your hand while fencing! Alot of beginners think they need to hold the weapon as tight and stiff as possible. That is wrong. No matter how hard you cramp your arm and hand to keep that weapon in the right spot: it is impossible from a sheer physical standpoint. rather than resisting his beat go with it which allows you to repost quicker and go into a counter attack.
3. get rid of the french, yes, it's awesome for pointcontrol but when you are competing a pistol grip will proove much more usefull. |
