Array Another FRED beta: googlemaps Hi folks. I posted this in another thread, but it's hidden a bit down the thread, so here you go:
Ever wish you could get a visual indication of where all the tournaments are? Check it out: FRED's map
If you filter by expected event rating, it takes a bit of time (~10 seconds) to return because that is a complex query on FRED's end. The map is in beta, so if you have user experience feedback, perormance issues, bug reports, etc. feel free to email me. peet@askfred.net

Using googlemaps API version 2 and AJAX to query FRED without reloading the page. Way cool......

Array Peet -- freakin' brilliant. The Gmaps API is so much fun to play with; but this is incredibly useful, it's fun to figure out where there are decent events within a day's drive.

darius And honestly, I ws just curious to see what FRED's coverage is like around the country. I mean, I kinda had an abstract sense of it, but never had a clear visualization before.
kinda cool...

Peet,
This is pretty hot... nice job.
Question though: does it look at a short time frame in the future? Noticed that one of my events (junior/cadet sectionals for North Atlantic Section) isn't showing up, even though it has full address data.

-w There are a few stragglers in the db that must have been last edited when FRED wasn't getting geocoding (lat/long) data for tournaments. FRED looks up the lat/long when the tournament is entered/edited, and stores it with the tournament
I edited your tournament (making no changes) so FRED's got the geocodes now.
