Array ACFA's Amarillo Open Fencing Tournament Amarillo College Fencing Association would like to thank everyone who helped make our 2006 Amarillo Open a big success. We would especially like to thank Gerrie Baumgart for chairing our bout committee for the 3rd year in a row. Visiting referee Toby Tolley worked both days and Bob Fiegel helped out on Saturday after one of our other referees had to cancel out at the last minute. We appreciate their assistance.
This year we were able to have virtually every bout on grounded strips and we hope that will be a draw in years to come. Next year, we hope to have every bout on grounded strips.
Our two biggest events were Open Epee (34 fencers) and Open Foil (31 fencers). Open Epee was on line to be a B2 tournament until 2 of our 3 B's in the tournament got themselves eliminated in the round of 16. So instead, we had two really fun, but difficult, C2 competitions.
All in all, it was a good tournament. Next year should be even better. Put the last weekend of February, 2007, on your calendar for the 2007 Amarillo Open and join us in Amarillo, Texas.
