| Photos from the JOs I spent part of Saturday and most of Sunday with my younger teammates competing in the JOs and took lots of shots. I thought some f.net folks who also competed might be in the photos (if you fenced a Seacoast fencer). There's also a bunch of shots from the Cadet Mens Epee gold medal bout.
Anyway, I thought I'd share. Here's the link to the photos I uploaded to my club's site: http://www.seacoastfencingclub.org/gallery/v/jo2006/
Converting the photos from DNG to PSD and then to the lower-res jpgs for the net caused some jpeg artifacts, which is quite annoying, and I apologize. It looks sort of like a coarse grain in the photo. *makes face*
Also, fantastic fencing, everyone! |

| Nice work in what was, I'm sure, some very dicey lighting. Make sure you submit some of your photos to our upcoming photo contest!

| Just browsing through some of the other albums... Came across this... http://www.seacoastfencingclub.org/gallery/v/joq2/
Wow... that's some of the worst (mechanically) footwork I've seen in a long time. I hope someone sits this kid down and teaches him proper FW. Never mind that in almost all of the pic, he seems like he's running away from the hit... |

| Glad you guys can appreciate them. We've currently got a "Wall of Shame" up in our fencing club with ten photos of our fencers caught in, well, odd positions while fencing, with pieces of paper for captions underneath to see who can come up with the best caption. It's turning out fairly amusing so far.
Serge, I can't. Because I shoot some weddings and portrait sessions during the year, I derive part of my income from photography, so I can't enter.
And yes, the lighting was dicey. Oddly, the lighting was more dim than in a regular club settings (at least the ones I've shot in). The noise I got with 1600 ISO was too much and I had to go down to 800 to leave latitude for cropping. Aperture was wide open and I put the shutter speed as low as I could bear (1/400, though I wanted 1/500 at least), but all my shots were still underexposed by almost a full stop. Luckily, RAW shots are forgiving, so it worked out. But in a regular club setting, I can normally shoot ISO 800 and shutter speed at 1/500 with right-on exposure. |

| 2.8 at 28mm. I was surprised at how dim it seemed at the JOs, the last large venue I went to (PdT in 05), allowed more exposure freedom. What was nice was less of a white balance problem due to the light's pulsing cycles that I find in the smaller venues.
Yeah, I'm sorry about the contest, too. I saw the thread and said, "Nice! A fencing photo contest...aw, CRAP." |

| Yeah, the light can be pretty bad sometimes. I occasionally have to sacrifice by going to higher ISOs and slightly slower speeds. That's when I resort to using noise reduction utilities later and hoping that I can use blade-blur as an artistic element |

Not one yellow card. |
