It'd be nice if Mixed Epee made A4 status, but it's looking unlikely. Then again, I see several people from Gold Blade who are Es. I though the entire club was A05 or better...

Pre-registration closed on 2/22. Additional fencers trying to sign up will have to do it at the door. My prediction is that we will have an A2/C3 tournament. However, quite easily could turn into an A2/B3 tournament. That is that 8 additional fencers will show up on Sunday and 6 of them are medium to highly rated. Keep in mind that many are pre-paid registrations, which highly encourages to attend the event. At the Gulf Coast, >95% pre-paid fencers showed up.

    Currently, we have 8A's, 6B's, 7C's, 8D's and 9E's.

    For:
    A3 - 24 B's & 12 C's (or higher) - We need 10 B's and 5 C's
    B3 - 24 C's & 12 D's (or higher) - We need 2 C's and 4 D's
    C3 - 24 D's & 12 E's (or higher) - We only need 8 more fencers to show up.

I suspect A4's requirement of 4As, 6Bs and 5Cs is about as likely...

End of day 1, and a very smooth running, I thought. Only the sabre pools had to be self-directed, and then mainly because ALL of the sabre-competent refs bar 1 (the BC chair!) were fencing.

Mixed Sabre was Guerinot over Zucker, S. 15-11. Mixed foil was Malynn, D, over Chris Rogers - he had an issue with a leg cramp, not sure what it was. E&Under mixed foil was Hemmati, Nabil over Wooley 15-?, and women's epee was... Karen Johnson over Amanda Jensen, score unknown.

Tomorrow, mixed epee, women's foil, women's sabre, E&under mixed sabre, E&under mixed epee. Going to be fun!

P.S. Any random women's sabre fencers in the section who want to show up are welcome! We all know each other, we like new faces!

The Mixed epee finished as a B2 tournament.

We had 4 A's and 4 B's with 38 fencers. The final was Daniel Bayarena (A06, San Marcos) over Xi Wei (UT-Austin). Daniel beat my son in semifinals in the extra minute (13-12). In the other semifinal Xi Wei defeated Woong Lim (Houston). Nice event.

    Let's see. Today - mixed epee, women's foil, E&under sabre, women's sabre, E&under epee.

Mixed epee - JEC totally covered better than I ever could No idea on women's foil, either - I was fencing sabre. E&under sabre was Boney over... I think Ms. Dotson's SO, but I'm not sure, in the final. The top 8 was something like 6 foilists and two sabreurs, or something equally... non-sabreury. Women's sabre ended Dotson over Bullard (not preregistered, if you're looking for her) 15-11? 12? A really good showing on Alex's part, given that she doesn't fence often in any weapon. Lots of slimy epee stuff (I got 3T out of 6 in this event, which was nice after finishing dead last in the other two sabre events.) And, E&under epee was Sager over... Kainer, I think, in the final. All nicely fenced.

Smooth running tournament, and best of all, the RecSports center (venue people) insisted that they would be the ones taking up the court tape that we used to demarcate strips, since they didn't want us to frack the laquer like we usually do (on accident). So, cleanup was about an hour and a half, instead of the usual closer-to-three hours!

Hope everyone had a great time. I know that my family and I did!
Good turn out, fencers seem to be enjoying themselves!
Hope all comeback next year and invite your friends.
