Welllll.... We're moving past the middle of the month and still no updates. Should be about time, no?
Whoever gets the event schedule info first to post here, please highlight it somehow (caps, color, whatever) so it'll stand out in the middle of the thread. Or maybe Craig can use his mad mod skillz to move it up...
The Tournament Committee Chairman is currently reviewing the final draft
of the Summer Nationals' schedule. We anticipate that it will be posted
on the USFA website by the end of the week if at all possible. We
recognize that our timing is later than anyone would like, but a final
version of the schedule could not be drafted and reviewed until after
the Board meeting at the Junior Olympics.
yeah, that's what the email i got said too. i understand they have board meetings and all, but i'm sure more people out there than me have schedules to organise.
Basically, the whole thing is ridiculous. Once a schedule is set up that works (2005, 2004, 2003???). You should just keep it, and publish it. The only reason this would not work is if you added or deleted events!
Or events became more or less popular over time. My understanding is that epee as a proportion of fencing in the US has been increasing substantially. Likewise, that assumes from the tournament organizers point of view there were no major problems with the previous year's schedule. Knowing a fraction of what goes on behind the scenes at a tournament that fencers don't hear of, I can assure you it's quite possible things didn't go as well as you think.

They do have to be varied. Last year, for instance, the Division I-A and the veteran competitions were on the same day for at least a couple of weapons, meaning that some fencers could not compete in one of their main events. I would hate to see that stay the same from year to year. Each year involves trade-offs and adjustments, and changes in the weapons, attendance, point calculations, and other considerations need to be accommodated.

OK, but all that being said, it just doesn't look like the most time consuming difficult calculation. Sounds like one meeting, 2 hours, hash it out. move on. I guess that's just my "medium-size business owner" brain speaking...
I could understand that it couldn't be finalized until the strip number was definite...but that happened at the JO meeting. What is the delay now? It's not like they are waiting for entries since people can't register until after the qualifiers -- or, in those events where there are automatics, until the dates are set down...

And in many cases, people can't register until they see the schedule -- especially people who fence more than one weapon and may have conflicts.
This thread is about Summer Nats travel details. Recall chatter is not appreciated and should not be posted here; it only muddies up the information people are trying to share to help each other.
How's the tornado stuff going? I hope it doesn't mess up your cheerful demeanor......
In case anyone wanted to know, I sent an email to the USFA last monday and tey said they would definately have the schedual by Wednesday. Because it wasn't, I sent another email Thursday asking again when they would have it. My answer to that was by the end of the week. Becuase I had to be in plane to Colorado for a tournament over the weekend, I did not know if they had the schedual up, which they didn't. At the tournament, two of the members of the national tournament comittee were there planning the schedual, I don't believe that they were close to the end of it. They have definately startedthough and I think (and hope) (but don't take my word for it) that they should have the schedual by the end of this week.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A REVISED SCHEDULE: THE ONLY REVISION IS THAT Y14 MEN’S FOIL HAS BEEN MOVED TO JULY 3
After being advised of an inordinate time gap between Y12 MF and Y14 MF we were able to adjust the schedule in order to allow fencers who qualify for both events to compete in both without a long period of inactivity. Due to the large number of competitions at Summer Nationals, it is very unusual to be able to make a change in the schedule; in this case, however, we were able to improve the schedule without creating an adverse impact on fencers in this or other events. There will be no further changes to the schedule.
Hot off the presses!
Meetings:
Saturday, July 1 – Congress/Membership (open meeting) – 7:30 am; Hall of Fame Reception, evening
Sunday, July 2 – Board of Directors, (open meeting) 7:30 am
