| Switching from saber to epee Hey everyone: I'm thinking about switching from saber to epee (or trying to fence both). Any thoughts or suggestions about making the transition easier?
Gary

| Remember to use the point of the thing, and that the whole body is target. Beyond that, only lessons will get you into full-blown epee mode.

| Remember that an epee is a bit heavier than a sabre, and you can only hit/score witht the point. So please, no slashing. (Last time I fenced a pure sabreur, I ended up with welts across my forearm...) |

| I made the transition from sabre to epee last year. It can be dificult, but I think I've found the one true weapon now.
The hardest thing for me to grasp was extreme amounts of patience. |

| Epee bouts actually can last the whole 3 minutes. Don't feel like you have to score 5 touches in 55 seconds. Attacks on the march are not protected by anything but your point... so make sure you know where it is, and where it is going. If your opponent hits you during your attack.... tough. Initially don't add the fleche or crossovers to your legwork, at least if you still want to fence sabre, nothing worse than getting carded 2 seconds after the director says fence eh? Have fun and welcome to the epee club. |

| Sorry, I don't understand the question. Sabre TO epee? It doesn't make any sense... |

Gary | It is a little difficult to fence both of them. First of all epee has differend strategy and above all it has not slash attack.
Be carefull.

| Yes, but both sabre and epee have 3 dimensional targets, and sabre counter attacks are very similar to those done for epee.
There are more similarities than people think.

| Yes I agree with you in this point of view, but he has to check and the following. He must care for his foots in epee the target are the foots also.
He must try very much to calibrate all of this.
