Good news, bad news (crappy way to end the year)

Ok..the good news...I'll be able to devote more time to my supply business.

The bad new...it's 'cause I got my notice today. Out on my ear after 8 years.

While I'm going to miss the income (and, unfortunately, be more subject to the whims of finances where my mortgage is concerned), I'm NOT going to miss working on divorce cases all day long!

Wish me luck, gang...I'm gonna need all I can get just to stay afloat.

Sorry to hear that, Sam. On the bright side---more time to fence and direct, as well as tend to a growing business ( which things always seem to demand a lot more time than anticipated ).

Good luck and gods speed.

Sorry to hear that, Sam. It seems to be chronic around here. Hubby and I were both out of jobs at the same time not too long ago. Talk about panick. I was sure we'd lose the house. I put in resumes from Detroit to Houston. Fortunately I found a decent job. He still hasn't so is working for himself as a contractor. It's not what either of us wants, but it pays the bills. Surely something will turn up for you. Best of luck.

Dang, Sam--sorry to hear that! I'll be thinking of you. Hang in there.

Well, sometimes it's for the best. It sounds like you're in the same situation I was in. I didn't really like the job I had--as a matter of fact I loathed it and it was making me into a nasty person--but I was too lazy and/or not brave enough to just up and quit. Well they downsized and guess who got the axe? I was bummed out about having lost another job for about a day or so, then I realized I would never so much as have to see the inside of that building again let alone put up with my supervisors, or-- with a few exceptions--with my co-workers again. Then I found myself smiling uncontrollably. As family and friends will attest, I'm much easier to get along with and actually think there may be hope for the human race again. As a bonus,--in a sick way, but you know what they say about Schadenfreude--since it was related to the hotel industry the entire office is now closed. I would have been out of work anyway, I just ended up out of work sooner than some. I'm still unemployed, but I think I learned some important things. Anyway, try to see it as an opportunity. Good luck.

Purple,
Sorry to hear your unfortunate news.
Been there myself and hubby has been out of work (but working without income) for over a year.
I believe that things happen for a reason although we may not understand the reason at the time we go through these things.
It's a new year, a time for new beginnings and I wish you the best.

Damn. But that happens in times like these. But then, the idea of not having to work on divorce cases all day long would set me free! Why laid off, though? Is divoce not the growth industry that it used to be? Lord knows that I have contributed more than my share to it.

Anyway, as the others have said, it will give you an opportunity to focus on you business and give time to think about what you want to do when you grow up!

Best of luck.

You must have been too nice and not screwing people enough in the divorce settlements.
As soon as my new job starts I'll see about steering some business your way.

Thanks for all the support, gang. I appreciate it.

Mergs, it wasn't a layoff. Suffice to say that I was getting into a few too many "spirited" arguments with the boss. I don't mind so much if I get called on the carpet for a screw up I actually, do, but when I start getting *****ed out for something I had nothing to do with, or if I ask for a clarification of a typically vague instruction...you get the idea.

Plus, she found out about the business back in October -- right after I uploaded the site - and thinks my attitude at work got worse since then since I was moonlighting. I don't think so, but now the opportunity's there to do something I'll feel good about instead of dealing in family law, which is the worst field.

Good luck.
Are you looking for another job? It would be ironic if you had to quit fencing in order to stay afloat selling fencing equipment.
I was unemployed this year for two months. Not good. So I know it's uneasy when income is down.

That irony DID cross my mind, as a matter of fact! As it is, even with the might number of events we need to run in Los Angeles (because of the sheer size of the division), I'd alreade decided to cut back on my events in order to sell more. I'm basically reserving my fencing for qualifiers locally, but if I don't find a day job in the meantime, I'll have no choice BUT to quit competing for awhile and concentrate on the business. I DON'T want to do that, but our financial health must come first...dang it
