Array This is sort of related to this thread so I'll post it here. If you have your name on the rear leg of your knickers are you required to have your name on the back of your lame for foil or the back of your jacket for epee? Fail until you succeed!

Not in USFA competitions. Yes in FIE ones. -

As KD5MDK said, you would not need to in a USFA competition. The trouble is for FIE competition, the pants would be illegal as you have to have your country logo on the leg. Since I can barely afford to go to Phoenix for the Phoenix Cup I doubt FIE requirements are ever going to be an issue for me! Fail until you succeed!

As long as we are at it, should the name on the leg be oriented from top-to-bottom, or bottom-to-top? (The former is more readable when fencing/lunging, but the latter is readable when seated.) "All things must pass. All things must fade away." - George Harrison -

Array That is a great question, but your analysis is flawed. What you said is correct for a right-hander. For a left-hander, the opposite would be true.
The problem is; if they had in the rule which way, it would be right for one or the other. My preference is top to bottom, to make it easier on the podium, but this is left to personal preference.
As a matter of point; even the FIE lettering on the back is required to be right-side-up. I would love to see a Dark Blue uniform with the name and country put upside-down in of course Dark Blue letters. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com
