STILL seeking a rust-proof epee mask I think it's been a while since I posted this topic, so I hope you don't mind if I revive it again.
I'm still looking for an epee mask that can withstand the moisture I produce in perspiration and exhalation. Once the paint chips off the mesh from a hit to the face, rust isn't far behind.
(And, yes, I know I know I know enough to keep the mask as dry as possible after bouts, so please keep that particular lecture to yourself this time.)
Can anyone here suggest a product? -

Easy now, we're trying to be helpful...
I've had my Negrini FIE mask for over two years, and I sweat like a pig (do pigs really sweat?).
There is no rust to be found anywhere on the mask.
BTW, keep the mask dry if you don't want it to rust.

Array The other option is to repaint your mask occasionally. I use Rustoleum, after I remove as much of the rust as possible. -

Array and while you are painting it go ahead and put a clown face on it and annoy people. If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

Array Hello Mr. T,
Try taking off a couple of your gold chains before fencing. That will reduce the amount of perspiration you generate since you are carrying less weight around your neck.
You didn't tell us what mask you own. I sweat and exhale a lot during fencing. Try Allstar or Prieur FIE masks. <img src="graemlins/jawa.gif" border="0" alt="[Jawa]" /> -

Array S.R. you need a mask with stainless steel mesh, this same situation aggravated me as well. I think that most FIE masks meet this criteria, I know for fact that the Triplette Dynaflow does, which is the model I use. Also has removable bib liner for cleaning purposes, a big plus. Unfortunately, they are painted white on the outside of the mesh, which looks retarded, but alas... -

Array I have to agree with Fred on the triplette mask. I think it was 117.95 and I love it. The white paint is a little annoying at first because it'll fleck off and hit you in the face, but that goes away pretty quickly once you've scratched it up a bit. It's a stout mask and I really like the washable liner and it's pretty reasonably priced. Methix

Array You know, a simple can of spray paint solves that white mesh issue....... If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

You know, it shouldn't do that. My son has that mask. I told Philip Jones and Walter Triplette about it and they immediately fixed it. They stand behind their stuff.
It's been months now and there have been no paint flecks returning.

Array There is a product called Plasti-Dip, used to give rubber coatings to tool handles and such. It also comes in a spray version, basically a rubber spray paint. I use it for all sorts of things, including insulating the insides of my sabre bells ( before they retracted the target back to the wrist and made it moot ). Unless you get hit in the mask a lot I daresay it would do the trick. Comes in black or red, available at Home Depot, etc. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Yes, by taping the can of spray paint to the top of the mask, it will distract others from noticing the light gray mesh.

Array I just got one of the Triplette FIE Dynaflow masks like 2 weeks ago. After my first try with it I was so covered in paint flecks it looked like I had been out in a snowstorm. I'm planning to get some white touch up paint at an auto parts store this weekend and touch it up as needed.
But.. on the rustproof mask subject. I know this is probably something that will get me flamed but.. Ya hafta admit, Lexan doesn't rust. That might be the direction he needs to go if its that big an issue for him.

But until Prieur starts selling their nearly-all-polymer "Power Rangers" mask (which will likely be never now that the FIE has given up on mandating lexan masks), those masks are still just a lexan visor plate mounted into a conventional mesh, so you'll continue to have rusting problems.

Excellent, on-target responses. Thank you much. I'll look into the suggestions listed here, especially Triplette Dynaflow and FIE stainless steel models.
