    Epee or foil grip?

    Hi everyone!

First time poster her so be nice people.

I've been fencing for a few years now. Foil is my weapon of choice.

I've been fencing foil but I use a "russian" style grip. I just sort of got used to it, but I've noticed that most people use that grip for Epee fencing. Is that normal?

Are there major differences between Foil and Epee Grips?

Should I switch? What do you guys use?

    bu-bye

    Hi Tori

First off, welcome. Lots of grips out there. The one you should choose is the one that best fits YOUR hand AND allows you to best wield your weapon. I have very large hands and use small modified germand and belgian grips that are filed down here and there to best fit my hand. You should go around and try some of your clubmates grips and see if there is one out there you might like better....

Foil and epee grip types are interchangable. There are some tendencies (you'll rarely find a foilist with a V-4, but they're fairly common with epeeists, some of that's due to size, but not completely) but you should use whatever grip feels best for you/you fence best with (likely to be the same).
