| Women's Saber in France There is a website that has the poules up already for the round of 64, the fencing starts at 11. http://www.escrime-orleans.org/coupe...2006/index.php
Reading down the list there is a most unfortunate DE. Jackie Jacobson and Emily Jacobson have to fence each other. That really sucks.... Youngest Ms Jackie is improving by leaps and bounds. Emily is the more experienced. Poor Mom will have to watch. All three of the Jacobsons are in the same quadrant.
Mariel Zagunis and Alexis Jamal will also have to fence in the round of 64.
Good luck WOMEN!!!! All of you. Fence well.

| That's a decent number of Americans there, and congrats to Sada Jacobson for making the #2 seed.
I see 14 US women, including 4 of the top 16, and several more in the top 32. Go dominance. |

| Congrats of course to the women who are currently warming up...for the start of the first round in the tableau de 64. Although from a purely academic standpoint I'm not sure how much I can congratulate Sada, Mariel, Becca and Caity for the seeds they obtained as they got byes into today's rounds...somehow it seems like congratulations (at least for the recent past) are in order for those that had to fight to get into the 64 yesterday instead of those that had to decide whether or not to get the coffee with alot of sugar or to have it sugarless. Good job ladies...we only lost one did we not? (and that one just seems to not have been having a good day, maybe flu season caught her)

The top 16 on the FIE list don't have to fence the first day but start with Direct Elimination which can or cannot be a good thing. Everyone in the top 16 didn't fence on Friday. They get an auto buy.
It is very kewl that Sada has stayed at the top or so close to the top in WS. She is an amazing young woman. They US women are on their way...
This is going to be one tough meet. More for some than for others.
GO GIRLS Fence well.

| My bad. I suppose as soon as I figure this format out they'll invent a new one.
So, do our ladies who get byes spend the pool day scouting the competition and taking notes? I expect some are familiar faces, but you never know when somebody will come up with a new trick. |

They are down to the semi finals, Mariel Z vs TROISI Enrica, and Rebecca Ward vs Touya who was the winner of the most recent senior World Championships.

And, sleeping, several catnaps during the day. Trying to stay relaxed and loose.
I am not sure what the fencers do....

Congrats to Becca and Mariel, and hopefully we get a US Gold-Silver, in no particular order I suppose.

| I feel like the other nations are becoming increasingly tougher in WS, in comparison to the US.

Aller Anne-Lise!! | Heard about the bout. The auditorium was completely filled with French People. Everytime Anne-Lise got a point everyone would SCREAMMMMMMM.
Word is Rebecca fenced well. She was happy.
It was very close. Considering she took out the Silver medalist (Velikia)and the Bronze medalist (Lucchino) and had such a tight bout with Anne-Lise in her own country. It was good.
Mariel is fencing Anne-Lise Touya right now.
The suspense builds.
This is an extremely tough competition. The best European women are there. It shows that the US women are still going strong.
PS no excuses but Sada has a ham string injury. It caused her to pull out in Houston and not finish Div I. It is most likely still bothering her.

| Well, we got an early start because we don't keep them down like we ought to, but as the sport becomes more accepted the Franco-Italian Genetic Superority will win through... |

The Momster | Emphasis added by me. Is it just my impression, or is WS the weapon/gender combination that has the by far lowest percentage of 25+ aged people? How old is the oldest among the top-10 in USA WS? What is the comparage age stat for the other 5 weapon/gender combos? MS does not seem so young, as least in my limited knowledge.
Have a nice time!

| That's probably because Women's Sabre didn't exist internationaly a few years ago. Therefore a lot of the current strong fencers have started it later than most men's sabre or women's epee or women's foil...
Really cool for Anne-Lise. Winning in your own country in front of your crowd must be quite the experience, I think.
