| Casanova has a real fencer I just saw Casanova and search IMDB to find out about some of the actors and one of them is an actual fencer.
Natalie Dormer, who plays Victoria fences with the London Fencing Academy.

Very nice pic. I think I'll check the movie out now.

| By all accounts it's so-so and not a patch on the BBC production of the same name. |

| It was not the best film, but it did have some nice twists to keep it interesting. Also, the fencing was not the Chinese acrobat type of the last Count of Monte Crisco or Musketeer.

| If ace is the Scottish equivalent of awesome, I'm with you. I've got that movie on DVD.

| Always good to know. That IMDB page says that she has a 3 movie deal with Disney. (Hopefully the new improved +Jobs & Pixar Disney, and not the leftover dregs of Michael Eisner.) |

Almost.
In the bounds of mythical chinese martial arts flying is almost accetable (I'm a fan and I have a hard time accepting it) but in a fencing movie .... |

Where is this? Never heard of it.
Is it this club? http://www.fencingacademy.org
Appears to be mostly kids and that might explain why I've never geard of it. Never heard of the coaching staff either. Apart from the flash intro it's a pretty site. |

| I am not sure. Where the information came from was IMDB.
They do seem to be not just a childrens club. They have 2 University Clubs as part of their club. They haven't updated it for a while (2003), but they have had some success with Seniors, but I will admit much of it seems to be for Juniors.

| Years ago, it was part of the classical education for an actor or actress to learn how to fence. (Also learn how to sing, to dance, and ride a horse.) Ralph Faulkner up in Hollywood always had a fair percentage of his students who were aspiring actors and actresses.
Wonder if that was why this person has fencing in their background? |

| I think that was back when Actresses were educated, and not marketing produced pop-singers or vice versa. |

| Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh is a Drama School (amongst other things). Yes, they do indeed teach fencing there, and from what I know, at other drama schools (e.g. RADA) as well. My club was going to be getting a purpose built salle with them - 7 inlaid pistes, show piste, coaching space, sprung floor etc etc. The government has decide to pull funding - much to our disappointment. In any case, it is my understanding that it is still pretty common for actors to get a little fencing training (mostly stage fighting) when 'at school'. |

Their coach, Aladdin Sadiq, is a mid-level fencer in the UK (typically L64 at large opens).
They are having a fair bit of success coaching kids up to about U14 from what I know of kiddy fencing.
