| Uhlmann Olympia Vs. Leon Paul Sydney Hey guys, i'm lookin to get a new uniform and i'm stuck between those two. I'm leaning toward the Ulhmann because i can get it in two or so days and pay 60-70 bucks less, but does the Leon Paul have any big advantages?
thanks
EDIT: I meant Ulhmann Olympia! Thanks guys! |

| The WC and Sydney lines are different levels of uniform: The more comperable models would be Leon Paul Atlanta to World Cup, or Uhlmann Olympia to LP Sydney. |

| Not wanting to blow my own trumpet but check the reviews of teh LP SYDNEY: http://www.fencing.net/reviews/censu...ails&itemid=79
"I had purchased an Uhlman Olympia jacket and had not found it all that comfy or stretchy. The Sydney jacket is simply amazing. Looks awesome, streches like crazy, and drys really fast. Awesome fencing jacket."
"I have owned two jackets, an Uhlmann World Cup and more recently the Leon Paul Sydney 800N jacket.
Both are very good jackets, no question. However, I bought the same size and found the LP to be a bit roomier, which at this point was exactly what I needed. It fits beautifully and the stretch fabric of which it is completely constructed really stretches. I was a bit unsure about their claims about the wicking capabilities of the liner, but alas, her too, I was very pleased.
Every small detail has been through out in this jacket. the crotch strap is folded and sewn at the loose end to keep it from unraveling. There are nice stretchy gussets around the wrists, alowing it to fit more smoothly under the glove. the neck is nice and thick with a blade trap.
Long and short, I simply can't find anything even remotely wrong with this jacket. well, perhaps ONE small thing, but I think this is the same for all streytch jackets...I do feel hard hits a bit more than in a jacket constructed fomr stiffer fabric."
To paraphrase one fencer,
Allstar/Uhllmann = Mercedes
LP = Bentley

| Depends on the size and hand... We keep quite small stocks (like Bentley!) but have some sizes in.
If they are in stock then delivary time to NY is pretty quick but otherwise we make them to order in our London factory. Unfortunately at the moment we are moving to a bigger premisis and this is causing a lot of disruption to production so it may take longer than normal to make you one . (sorry)
On the plus side you know you want the Great British Bentley rather than the common as muck merc |

Thanks! | They should have that in stock. Thats a common enough size. They had size 40 jacket in stock when I ordered from them. I have to agree with Alex Paul that it is the best jacket ever made. They've thought of every minor detail and the stiching is of such high quality. You should definitely get the jacket. Its worth the wait (and money).

| Get duellist instead. I've seen their stuff, and it blows LP and and Uhlmann out of the water. If I had the money, it'd be my purchase.

| I've tried on both Duellist (UK) and L-P stuff. Whilst the Duellist kit is good quality it's no better than the Allstar / Uhlmann kit. The L-P has better attention to detail. |

| There's also body type and fit to consider. It seems every vendor tailors their standard sizes differently. Despite being the same sizes, the LP jacket has a too-short torso while the Duellist jacket doesn't. However, the LP jacket has wider shoulders than the Duellist jacket. As for the knickers, with the LP knickers, you can really feel the hard part of the seam that binds that band at the top that has the suspenders to the rest of the pants. It's like that one part isn't stretchy at all and digs into you, even if the rest of the knickers are loose (which mine are). The Duellist knickers don't have that seam right there, instead goes straight to the tab at the top.
But both a great kits. And customer service is great with both companies. |

| You can talk to Rick about trying on the duellist stuff; he's in New Jersey, so it's not too bad of a trip from you.

| Guidance re fit? I've also been debating between Ulhman/LP, and am looking for some guidance regarding fit.
I'm a slender 5'7" woman, with big waist/hip differential (25"/35"), broad shoulders, and small chest (I use a youth size chest protector). I've always worn Ulhman/allstar fie stuff, but have found the fit to be rather square/boxy.
Any advice re what brand would be good for me?
The only vendor in the city where I live who has stock on hand deals only in Ulhman/allstar, and I need my new stuff before I go my next major competition (current stuff is getting worn/unsafe), so I'll likely be ordering online. |

| Hmm.. Given jackets don't really cover the hips, perhaps you need a different brand of jacket than knickers? In one of the recent threads here DFP posted a list of brands of clothing and his evaluation of their fit in terms of wide, thin, etc. |
