| I remember reading an article in Newsweek by Anna Quindlen a couple of years ago...
The thrust of the article was to marvel how the Rove painted Kerry as a 'liberal', and how to be liberal was a bad thing. So bad that Kerry tried to avoid being characterized this way.
She started off by listing the definition of the word 'liberal' (she if I recall noted the words forward thinking and progressive), and then proceeded to list how many of the past liberal agenda became mainstream. She mentioned things like the Civil Rights Movement, gender equality, and other biggies that are indeed mainstream in this day and age.
Now, listening to Bush talk about 'Americans are addicted to oil', and we need to find alternative fuel sources, I couldn't help but be reminded of the article...
Liberals and environmentalists have been saying this (conservation, alternative fuels, etc...) for decades. Back when Bush was making his money off being a pusher/enabler of oil addiction, people were decrying it's use. Now, he says what others have been saying, and the GOP/right wingers will take up his words as if he's always been leading us down this path...
Ironic, isn't it?
