| Coming Soon: Fencing Photography Contest I wanted to get this notification out so that you can get started.
Enter the Fencing Photography contest and you’ll have a chance to have your photos displayed at the 2006 National Championships in Atlanta, GA.
Soon we’ll have the full contest rules, categories, and prizes worked out, but wanted to give advance notice to the fencing community so that you can start working up your best fencing photos now for entry in the contest.
All entries will be scanned in and put up for display on Fencing.Net. Photos will be voted on by a selected panel of judges as well as the fencing.net community. The top photographs in each category will receive prizes (still being negotiated) from the contest sponsors and will have their photos displayed at the 2006 Summer Nationals as well as featured on Fencing.Net.
We expect the final categories to be: Action shots, Portrait, and Artistic shots. Action and Portrait shots can be cropped, lightened or darkened but no other alterations are allowed. Artistic shots can be digitally altered.
Preview of the rules (these are not the final rules, those will be published when we have the final details worked out, but these are really close): - To participate in the photo contest, you must (i) be at least 18 years of age at the time of entry and (ii) go to the photo contest page of FencingPhotos.com or Fencing.net and following the instructions to register as a participant and complete and submit an entry or entries as specified. Any and all photos submitted must either never have been copyrighted, or, if copyrighted, you must be the sole copyright owner.
- The contest is limited to non-professional, amateur photographers only. If you take photographs for all or part of your regular income, you are not eligible to participate.
- You may not become a participant if you are an employee or family member of one of the Sponsors.
- The photos are legal.
- You grant the Organizers all rights to use and publication of the photos.
Serge and I are working out the final details including the judges and the prize packages.

| No, no, I realize that. It just made me curious in general, how many there would be. That's all. Sorry if the other post sounded pissy or anything, it wasn't meant to be. |

| A friend told me there is a local photography contest here in association with an annual festival, and they do have several youth categories. There's some sort of form that parents can sign so the kids can enter and have the photos credited to the kids and the festival gets to publish the photos. I'll see if I can do some research and publish the wording here. |

| Just to point out, all photos are copyrighted on taking by the photographer, absent other arrangements, in the US. |

Yes, and if the photographer is a minor he/she would have to enter into
such a seperate arrangement, forfeiting their copyright to a parent or guardian, who would then qualify to enter into an agrement with fencing. net et al. by proxy.

| We will support and respect copyrights and ownership of any and all images, just as we do for our own. Images will all have credits and be used appropriately, and those submitted by minors through their parents/guardians would also get credits with the approval of those responsible for them.
This stuff gets dicey and complicated; however, the spirit and vision of it is that FencingPhotos.com is dedicated to presenting the images of a variety of photographers and how they view fencing. To date, this has mostly been my own work -- however, I really want this to grow and develop into more, including both professional and non-professional work from all over the world. As such, we're learning a lot about how to manage, protect, present, and respect the work of a variety of people and their creative endeavors.
I'm not an attorney, but our agreement has been drafted based upon researching other contest materials written by those "in the know" (i.e., attornies). Any input from the Fencing.net crowd is helpful feedback before we begin this project in-earnest.
Primarily, this is to protect the photographers and ensure we have a fair contest. So please keep the comments coming -- they're very helpful... |
