| A+ for South Texas Division I just wanted to say that I travelled to the Pouj Memorial tournament this weekend and I had a great time. The tournament was very well run, good directors... everything seemed to run very smoothly, at least my event (mixed foil). I was also very impressed to see the results with pool and DE information all posted on FRED the NEXT DAY. Very cool!
Cant wait for the next time.

| I was there for two Epee events and it was as you said-an excellently run tournament. Events were started within 15-30 minutes of close of registration, competition friendly, just a pleasure to be there. Rumor has it that a large numer of their refs did not show up and there was some directing from within the pools, but even with that, it was smooth and well-run.
Southwest flies to San Antonio and Austin, so those of you who can hook up with a cheap Southwest flight, it's worth the trip.
I hope this tournament grows every year! |

| The 26th POUJ tournament Mixed Epee had 69 fencers with at least 21 A's and appeared to be an A4 by entry criteria. Started on time. No shortage of referees or strips. Pools of 7 were done in double strips. Robert Reed won the event. Great atmosphere and tournament. Come back next year. OROD congrats on your B06! Next time, bring some teamates.

| The referee shortage was on Saturday when the end of Men's Foil, the meat of Women's Epee and the beginning of Mixed Sabre and Cadet Epee all were coming on at once, and several referees were fencing in the Mixed Sabre (like me). There was one self directed pool in MS, which looked reasonably able to do that. |

I'm certainly going to try and come down to Austin myself whenever I can... Longhorn, Masters, Pouj... plenty of good tournaments around... and I encourage you guys on this forum to come if you can. They are usualy well run, large tournaments, and there's plenty to do in Austin so you cant go wrong! =)

| OROD,
If you want strong, well run events, check out some of the other tournaments in the Southwest Section. Both the Rose and the Oz Parsons have top flight referee and tournament staffs, that run almost perfectly. And there are good events in Dallas and Houston as well.
*grin* And neither the Rose or the Oz had referee shortages at any point!

| I doubt they ever will, with the treatment involved. I think we should invite a referee from other sections to each so they can go home and tell other how much they're missing... |

The first thing I do when I fly into town usually on a Friday evening is round up any of my friends that are free and head for Chuy's! It takes like 45 minutes to be seated, but it's soooo yummy... and lucky me the special on Friday is my absolute favorite!!

. | Besides, if they take more than 45 minutes to seat you you can just fill up on those greasy (but oh so good) chips and call it a night. |

Just a note, never ever sprain your ankle, especially not right at the start of the spring session!

| All those marked "Houston" are from Alliance Fencing Academy, and as a matter of fact were all fencing at the same time in the round of 8. (LoParco vs Trapani and Krudy vs Wright). Moreau, Hurme and I think Reed all represent ATAC, although Robert used to be Salle Pouj and is listed on the ore-reg list as UNAT. |

Chris Rogers fences for UTFC (Austin). The irony is that in the table of 8, the 4 Houstonians were eliminating each other as well as the 4 South Texans were doing too.

| I didn't mention Chris because he's the only fencer from UTFC in the top 8, unlike the other 2 clubs that made up the top 8.
I expect to see some Team Epee entries at Summer Nats from these Divisions. |

| So just because y'all decided to collapse all your fencers into one club means we have to to stay competitive? (/me thinks of the merger-mania from the 60s and 80s and etc...) |

| hahaha.. >I< had nothing to do with it - I have my own club, down in a different part of Tarrant County. But it made little sense to have two epee-centric clubs operating within 5 miles of each other, so they decided to merge.

| I was fencing for Salle Pouj at the beginning of this season, but I'm fencing unattached for the rest of this season (you can't come home again...).As for the GBFC powerhouse, try and chew me!*...heh-heh-heh
*That's assuming that I don't get knocked out in the round of 16 or 32 (aka Rose C./Longhorn...*sniff*) |
