the US got involved a (*cough*) little conflict there a few years ago..... since then, i would imagine that the US perspective on Vietnam and the Vietnamese is a little skewed.......

a bit more "diving through the mud in an effort to get PTSD" than "ooh, look at the pretty scenery and the interesting culture"


i also bet we tend to thing of them as less advanced than they actually are......


and by "we", i mean the generations of us that weren't alive for the war, but grew up with parents or other relatives that did, and all of our information about it all is reprocessed a few times........

We've had a few out breaks among the avian population here last year, not one person got sick. All the birds within a large radius where they found a few sick birds were killed and the farmers compensated.

The main problem was with the people who had rare birds that they were breeding for years.
