| OCD habits I always thought that i was fairly normal in the way that I have my own little habits, that is until recently. I've started to discuss my varius daily rituals and have discovered that my habits are entirely seperate from the habits of others. That is why I'm starting this thread. Post your odd habits here, for the amusment of your peers. Here's mine:
The other day I confessed to everyone at fencing that I do infact eat the marshmellows last when I eat luckey charms. After all, how else do you get that HUGE blast of sugar in one bite. They all proceeded to admit that they do the same. Then (thinking myself amoung my like kind) I proceeded to tell them all that when I eat froot loops, I sort them by color while I do it. I was greeted with silence and strange looks. I, however, not catching the hint that I had oversteooed the bounds of familiarity proceeded to give that very order, which go as follows:
purple, blue (if there are any in that version of fruit loops) red, green, orange, yellow
Please, someone make me feel normal in retrospect.

| Well, yeah,
I try to match the colors of the fruit loops I eat, like having all orange in one bite, then all red in the next, but there's no order to it. |

| It is absolutely imperative that I write only in pen, and only with a certain kind of pen, otherwise I don't like writing.
I need to fence at least once per week, does that count? |

| I cant write in pencil, it drives me nuts.
hahaha... hmm....
god, I dont know... I dont know if these are what you mean, but my friends make fun of me for it. I walked barefoot through the streets in January before, I wear two layers of pants in winter, I take about a half hour to put cream cheese the way I want it on a bagel, I have over 200 cds, and they're all sorted into different cases for certain reasons (ie, ones I like right now, ones I never listen to, only Bowie and Cher, only Alla Pugacheva, etc)
I burst into song at the most random moments... I Feel Pretty comes up a lot at fencing, actually.
I dont really think its all that strange though.

| Well, I eat M&M's by colour- brown, orange, green, blue, red, yellow. And I leave marshmallows for last when eating a marshmallowy cereal. I love mixing cereals too, and I have to fill the bowl of cereal with milk. It's no good if it doesn't have enough milk. |

| This is stupid, but I hate it when the colors on my epees dont match each other. It pisses me off that 2 of my epees have red sockets, and 1 of them has a blue socket. I cant explain it.

| I don't know what to call it, but for example, if I got a labret piercing on the side, I would HAVE to have it on the other side as well to 'balance' it out. I have a labret piercing... but it's in the middle, so it doesn't need to be balanced. Same goes for nipple piercings and the like (not that I have any others). It's like I need to have a lot of things balanced out by something else. |

| My wife has told me I have one (well, at least one) notible oddity.
When at home and making use of the facilities, the only permissable communication is something like, "Honey, the house is on fire." Idle chit-chat through the bathroom door will draw an unusally sharp rebuke from me. Something about communing with nature that makes unneccessary communication exceptionally rude.

| I always straighten things and will fidget with them at length to try to force things to appear symmetrical. I hate when things aren't symmetrical, needless to say after two years of fencing my own forearms bother the hell out of me.

| when i'm eating, if i have 4 things on my plate, i will eat one thing at a time.
if i'm eating skittles, i will eat at least two skittles at a time, and they must be the same color.
if i have to do a bunch of things in the bathroom, and one of them is pee, i always pee first.
i always deconstruct my food. flake rolls get de-flaked, croissants get unrolled, and let's not discuss hostess snack cakes.....
before my music collection got to 20 gigs, i used to be really anal about how it was labeled.
i always double knot my shoelaces.
do you need more?

| Mine are quite simple:
People who don't bother to use basic grammar and only have a vague idea of spelling and punctuation. I actually want to (equal parts) correct what I am reading or shoot the offender. I have been known to send emails back to my boss corrected (highlighted) with marks out of ten at the bottom - that includes examples of management speak. I have a good relationship with my boss so its taken well. His counter OCD is to complain about the state of my hair (its too long) and the colour (or lack thereof) of my clothing.
It's not even errors that bother me, it's the complete laziness of most people that truly infuriate me. It's not so hard to at least try for clarity's sake.
And the above includes L337 speak, txt-speak on forums, and general unhelpful stupidity. |

| I have a few quirks…. One is if I am doing something that doesn’t require my eyes (such as driving) I have to read… I have books all over the house because of this.
Another quirk stems from coming from a large family. I tend to be less shy (and even downright social) at times that many people seem to want their privacy.
Most notably, I enjoy company when I am in bed and bathe. Having a large bathtub (made for two) is the most important feature in a house for me.
I also noticed that I (and all my sisters) hang outside the bathroom door to chat while someone is ummm "busy"… this quirk drives my husband crazy, yet most of my family sees it as normal… Hey we grew up with one bathroom and 10 people, privacy means very little to us!

| Before getting on the subway, once the doors open I have to make a complete turn to the left, perform a sign of the cross, make a complete turn to the right, genuflect, then shout "please stand clear!" in a pepperpot falsetto.
Other than that, I'm perfectly nor....
Oh wait. That wasn't me.
Sorry.

| I eat pizza starting at the crust and work to the tip of it... no idea why.
I also will NOT eat pizza that is cut into squares unless it is home made. Has to be the pretty triangles...
Speaking of OCD.. a friend of mine was telling me that she saw an article in National Geographic that said the chemical reaction that causes OCD also causes the feeling of being in love... i thought that was pretty interesting.

| I write with a fountain pen, and I have to have it with me. I have been known to get to work, realize I left my pen home, and turn around and drive back to get it. When I misplace it, I wander around feeling as if I have left the stove burner on under the frying pan, abandoned a half-drunk cup of coffee somewhere, forgotten to return a call, and left my wallet in the pocket of a coat I never wear.
Since I forget and misplace it regularly, this makes my path in life resemble that of a three-legged ant.
I will not go into detail about the compulsive head-scratching, counting, balancing, tidying, twitching, coin-flipping, and fidgeting that are an everyday part of my life. I have honestly improved since I became an adult. If I hadn't, the fact that I have two cartilage piercings in my right ear and none in my left would make me whack into the walls as I walk.
