| I prefer women who don't wear make-up--I don't wear it, why should they?
The best reason a woman ever gave me for wearing make-up was: "It's fun."
I can accept that. But otherwise, I think people look better without it, even if they conform better to popular standards of attractiveness.
I also think most women's shoes are fundamentally equivalent to Chinese footbinding. I do like subtle perfume (musk, amber, etc., YUMMMM!!!!!).

| hmm - thats not particularly OCD... or uncommon, in fact....
Its actually partially surprising to hear that guys dont like make-up... girls do. lol. Well, some. I agree that its fun to put it on, though this is yet to be explained....

| I wore makeup my freshman year of high school.... then, um, stopped.
My friends convinced me I looked fine without it, and I decided anyone who liked me b/c of the way I looked with makeup on wasn't someone I was interested in.... and at that point the only reason I wore it was to look more attractive.
Otherwise, I just own/wear stage makeup. That is fun. Especially dance makeup. It's so bizarre.

| Come on...we don't wear makeup for men, we wear makeup for other women!
It's just a statement that you are not an underachiever and that you will not settle for less of what you can have. Then of course, if you don't care about how you present yourself to the world and go with the "I just got out of bed, love me as I am" look, that's a statement too I guess...
And really...why everything we do has to do something with attracting men? If this was our primary goal, we would all be walking around naked, carrying trays with hamburgers and beer.

| I only wear coverup to hide blemishes/bags, or whatever else unsightly colors my skin likes to throw at me. Mostly though my skin's too dry for makeup so I look better without, and mascara bugs the HELL out of my eyes.
OCD? Well, I can only stand to write with Zebra pens. Also, I color-coordinate my planner - which I must have or nothing ever gets done. I never feel complete until I've made that little check-mark. |

"But Sam, you've washed and dried 200 dishes today, and you're doing them over again. We need to realphabetize the books and maps Bilbo left. They might have rearranged themselves during second breakfast."
oh. I'm sorry. I thought you said OCD hobbits... |

I take care of my appearance (well, not at college, but who has time?), but I don't like having stuff on my face- especially since I have rather sensitive skin. Plus makeups a pain in the neck- you have to keep reapplying.
Also I remember a newspaper article I read about these women who went without makeup for a week. Apparently they couldn't handle it- felt overexposed and unattractive and generally uncomfortable. It was really hard for them just to leave the house. I found this somehow frightening.

It was really hard for them just to leave the house. I found this somehow frightening. | I know I feel overexposed when I don't wear makeup, since the only reason I do is to cover my acne and bad habits concerning it. Makeup's my little way of hiding evidence of my anxious habits from the rest of the world, haha.
I have a friend who always wears makeup (mascara, shadow, coverup) because frankly, she looks better with it on. She has heavy circles under her eyes and the makeup helps to minimize them. If nature were kind to her she would have been born with thick eyelashes, but in reality they're quite thin - hence the makeup. In this sense makeup is woman's way of "making up" for the shortcomings of the genetic lottery. It's painting on a better face/improving on the one you've got, after all. Quote: |

I think each person has their own reason tho, and to generalize on women as a whole would be unfair. Everyone has different goals and expectations regarding one another, and the wearing (or not) and rationalization of makeup is a result of those.
