This is a lame thread, but yet we are posting on it. Maybe we all need some simple threads to clear the political cobwebs from our minds. Unless the original poster plans on recalling our favorite attacks...

    No particular order...

Move into a footwork pattern, wait until the other fencer commits to an attack and they stick my arm out just before using acclerating retreats to outrace their lunge. It allways makes me smile, especially when the other person throws a little fit.

A well timed march with a straight attack to the body.

Disengage and flick to the wrist

Foot shots. I really love foot shots...

    Dirty AIP timing tricks...

counter attack along your favourite line.

    2. Double attack. First a rather simple attack that your opponent easily follows and avoids. Stop for a second and make your opponent think that he knows your movements. Then make a new attack that starts in the same way as the first attack, but continuous with a new movement and a fast and strong final movement.

    3. Move relaxed towards your opponent. Move slowly closer. Surprise your opponent with a fast attack along your favourite line. The key is the surprise.

Be fast and determined in the final movement.

In epee for my first touch of every bout I try to walk up to my opponant, jockey back and forth. then bounce out when he does, bounce in together and flick him on the wrist.

In sabre my favorite is to accelerate towards my opponant to the point where he thinks he can hit me in preparation. Time it correctly and Stop as he goes for the counter attack, parry, and chase him down and hit him with accelerating advance-lunge.

Be careful with the chase, as his blade would seem to be in prime position for an out of time riposte.

That's why it pays to be an epeeist. Very simple universal playbook.

Hmmm, I generally like to think of fencing as more sophisticated than say a football game where one has set plays that work the same way...but in the interest of avoiding my reading:

    Epee:
Feint to wrist/forearm if no reaction quick fleche
    Feint to wrist/forearm/ attempt to parry/ decieve-fleche
    Feint to wrist/forearm/counterattack/ pris-de-fer fleche

    Saber:

    advance lunge with line change
    flunge
false flunge followed by a real flunge or parry riposte
attack compose (finish with the foot early but keep the blade moving forward, causing a split second of indecision as to riposte or look for the parry)
squawk like a chicken followed by a ballestra
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
"Martin was not an optimist; he was a prisoner of hope." Optimism is about assuming there's evidence that justifies your outlook while hope is about creating the evidence and procuring your own happiness or vision of the world. - Professor West
