| Armor rule origin? After reading in a thread about the guy who got hit 40+ times in sensitive areas and still refused to wear a cup, I was wondering:
Why are women required to wear BPs? (I'm not saying women shouldn't, I'm just wondering where the rule came from). |

| 1. Where is primary target? Chest, not groin.
2. Soft tissue damage can lead to cystosis which can also be a precursor to cancer (Army or any other medico, please correct if this is bad poop)
3. Not the macho french or italian thing to wear a cup.

| Who says the rules do not require the men to wear cups also? Yes, the breast protectors are required in the M section. But there is a requirement for cups. I will give you a hint where you can find it. There has been a lot of talk about the timing and the Sabre mask & Jacket. In the M section, Visor masks would be illegal, because of the resistance requirement. But another section of the rules, overrules the M section. In that section you will find the requirement for cup to protect the genital organs. Here's another hint, look for a picture showing the vital parts to protect.
Just because a rule is not enforced, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Just because a rule is not enforced, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. | So, as I am less familiar with the appendices than with the rest of the rulebook, if I were refereeing a bout where a guy was not wearing a cup, and this came out through a bad hit, would it then be a yellow card for non-conforming equipment? Just asking as there are other parts in that section which seem to apply only to international competition (e.g. FIE labels).
If that is the case, wouldn't it make sense to start checking for it? We do the "rap" test for women's BPs, why couldn't we do the same for men's cups? |
