    2000 Olympic Fencing tapes

Several people have asked me whether I can sell
them copies of the 2000 Olympics fencing tapes.

I can, but only if there are enough people to
warrant making many copies. I don't want to
spend my time at home making duplicates, so I
will use a video duplicator shop to do the
    duplications.

However, I'm not going to go there if all I'm
doing is two or three copies. At under 5 copies,
they usually charge around $15-17/tape (tape
included). It goes down with volume.

Anyway, please send replies to this post, or via
private email (using the private email service
here on fencing.net) if you have interest.

If I get 10+ responses, I'll make copies. I have
five tapes, one for each weapon (no women's
sabre) from the Olympics. All include at least
the gold medal individual bout, all include at
least a portion of a gold medal or bronze medal
team match. Each tape is 2 hours, and are
commercial-free. All tapes have some sort of
    technical difficulties (bad transmission,
events cut-off at inopportune moments, etc.)

If I get 10+ response (say, by 1st of January) to
any of the five, I'll make duplicates of that
    response.

Cost will be duplication cost + tax + postage +
packaging (the boxes) + $5.00. So for those
asking from Australia, it'll cost you a bit more.

I'll provide the quote for making 10 copies later
    on this thread.

Here's the status so far: I'm getting nibbles here and there from various people. I think I'm getting about 3-4 yesses for each tape, so no real big push for one or two particular tape.

The video duplication shop I go to has this price list (for 90-120 minute tapes):

    Number of copies/master Price
    1 $17.75
    2-4 $12.75
    5-9 $9.80
    10-19 $7.45

I use them because they're good and quick. But, as you can see, it's not going to be cost effective until I get around 10 copies/master.

So, let's hear more requests. Please don't send re-requests. Email me at edew@olagrande.net so I can count them properly.

    Thanks

Are we talking olimpic fencing as in 2002 olimpic winter games kinda thing? If not (I guess if so for some of my next question.) IS there fencing in the 2002 games? Where will it be held? I'm guessing the S.L. club. (hehe kind of a Duh)

Olympic fencing as in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. There are no plans for fencing in the winter Olympics.

    I'd like the epee tape.

I have parts of the bronze medal bout between Chevtchenko and Ferrari (there was a commercial break which I edited out that took out everything between a 4-4 score and 14-12 score). I have the complete gold medal bout between Bissdorf and Kim. Very good bout. I also have the complete bronze medal team match between Italy and Poland. Very good to watch as well. And I have the first half of the gold medal team match between France and China. Ends abruptly at the fifth match, I believe. Overall, fairly good.

What is the tape format in Israel, NTSC or PAL?

So even though the 'main' season is in the winter. You could say that fencing in the olimpics is a summer sport? I'm slightly confused on the matter.

The IOC defines winter sports as anything that actually requires snow or ice as part of the 'field of play', not by when the normal season is.
The notion of shifting some indoor sports to the winter games as a way to keep the summer games manageably sized and prevent less popular sports from being bumped by ratings grabbers like Topless Beach Volleyball has been brought up before, but the IOC seems intent on sticking to the 'needs snow or ice' criterion.

That has already been done. The Film "THE THREE MUSKETEERS" a few years back had a very funny bit in which the Musketeers had a sword fight on a frozen creek.

I bought my 2000 Olympics fencing tapes from edew last year (or was it early this year?). They are great! Good quality. Believe me guys, they are worth it.

BTW, edew...I heard you mention back on rsf that you and Gustafson had something in the works for the 2001 competitions...

Yes, anybody on the fence about these tapes shouldn't be, these tapes are great, and Mr. Dew does a great service to the american fencing family. Btw, many of us in the midwest are eagerly awaiting any news on those 2001 WC tapes!!
