Mall Tournament Congratulations to the Knights of Sienna (fencergal33, Padawan, I think) for another successful mall tournament.
This series of monthly events in the mall is an excellent example of how fencers and clubs can promote fencing regardless of what is happening (or not) to promote fencing at the national level. Televising the finals and having a commentator to explain the action is a big win.
If you don't watch out, though, you are going to have to move to a bigger mall. -

Array Thanks DCM! I hope you had a great time, and we'll see you again!
As for outgrowing the space........it shouldn't happen, because we have a 64 per event maximum.....that's where the Swordmaster points list comes in! -

Array Had a great time as well The Mall tournaments are really fun because you get to show off your passion, love, obsession with the sport. Most people have no idea what fencing is. We get alot of calls wanting to know how much we charge to fence in back yards and such.
Got to see some old friends and make new ones, etc., etc. It was also really fun to sit back and watch the finals and talk about fencing while watching /filming a great bout. Keith Liggett was a great help there as he filled in when I ran out of things to say in the Saber finals.
Thanks to all of the fencers who not only came to the tourney but pitched in to make it a great event. We few, we happy few, we band of monkeys;
For he to-day that loses his tip with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so spastic,
This day shall gentle his point control;
And gentlemen in USFA HQ now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us at Nationals. -

Array It went fairly well but needs a little more coordination with the strips being scattered all over like that. The DE's were a bit confusing to follow at times.
As for the size limit, judging from the length of the event with 30+ fencers if you had 64 it would take FOREVER. You would need at least 3 or 4 more strips.
That being said, I quite enjoyed myself, as did my teammates and students and we expect to return again.I don't suppose anyone found a brown cap with the 3rd SF logo on the fron and "Afghanistan" embroidered on the back? If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

More strips coming Well, we met with the mall yesterday and they were very excited on how well the event went. We are adding their commericals in today as well as the ones for the fencing schools for the television shows. We will see how many more people start looking to get into fencing over the next six months. We will be mailing copies of the DVD to the other clubs that were there so that they can try to also air them in their local markets.
The mall is going to start giving us more space so that we can accomadate 64 fencers for the series. We have closed down the gaming portion of the store when we have the tournaments so that it is only the fencers in the back. We have also secured a spot for all the fencing bags.(wow, it looked like an airport in the mall this weekend).
There is talk that next month some of the retailers are going to jump on board. Surprises for everyone. "who do you think you are?"
"Do you think by making someone a knight, you make them a better fighter?"
